Recreation Programs OPEN with Modifications

The following programs will operate with appropriate modifications for St. Mary’s County residents only. Due to certain restrictions and COVID-19 guidelines, maximum allowable participants may be lowered and planned activities will be modified to accommodate social distancing and proper sanitization to lessen the risk for disease transmission.


Great Mills Swimming Pool: The pool is open for St. Mary's County residents Monday-Sunday for lap swimming, aqua aerobics and open swim. Participants must wear masks at all times, except for when in the water. Reservations are required and designated times are allotted for specific activities. Reservation Details

Outdoor Parks, Playgrounds & Beaches
  • Affiliated Youth Sports leagues operating details: Fall Youth Sports Guidelines
  • Please contact Sport Coordinator, Tyrone Harris at tyrone.harris@stmarysmd.com to reserve a field at one of the county parks.
  • Outdoor parks and playgrounds are open to the public while adherence to social distancing guidelines is recommended.
  • Waterfront beaches at Elms, Myrtle Point and Snow Hill are open to St. Mary’s County residents only with capacity restrictions from 10:00am-7:00pm, 7 days per week. There is a fee for entry on weekends. Please visit www.stmarysmd.com/recreate/parks for details.

Wicomico Shores Golf Course: The golf course is open for play with social distancing restrictions in place. The Riverview Restaurant is open for business with a concession window offering alcohol sales. Details are available at www.stmarysmd.com/docs/wicomicoshoresopen.pdf

County Museums: The Water Taxi that operates from the St. Clements Island Museum to St. Clements Island is open seven (7) days a week and will continue to operate through October with increases in maximum capacity. There is a $7 fee for each person. The boat will leave the mainland pier at 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:00pm. The boat will leave the island pier at 12:15pm, 1:15pm, 2:15pm and 3:15pm. Masks are required while aboard the water taxi, though they may be removed while on the island so long as social distancing guidelines are observed outside family units. 
St. Clement’s Island Museum will reopen on September 11 from 10:00am-5:00pm daily through October 31, 2020. Starting November 1, winter hours at the museum will take effect, from 12:00-4:00pm daily. Masks and social distancing measures are required when visiting the museum. 
Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park will remain closed indefinitely pending the completion of new exhibit area. Most likely the museum operations will open in October 2020.

St. Mary’s Gymnastics Academy - USAG Team Practices: The Junior Olympics and Xcel USAG team members are continuing to participate in practices. Times, days and rotations have been modified to meet all guidelines as established by the USA Gymnastics governing body and the local health department. Recreational gymnastics classes remain closed until further notice.

Leonard Hall Recreation Center: Family Skate held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00-5:00pm will resume in October. Participants will be required to make advanced reservations. Adult Roller Hockey will resume league play in mid-September. Restrooms remain open for park and playground users. Face masks are required when entering the facility.


Fall 2020 Recreation Opportunities

The Recreation & Parks staff are currently assessing availability and likelihood to offer additional, modified programming for indoor and outdoor instructional programs for the Fall season. Information will be made available by email, web updates and social media announcements once plans are complete.

Recreation Program Cancellations & Postponements

The following events and programs are cancelled following the Maryland Road to Recovery Plan. Many of these programs involve large gatherings, vulnerable populations and access to public school facilities.

Scott Verbic Golf Tournament: The annual event held each October will not take place. Instead the 25th year anniversary tournament will be held in 2021. Specific date to be determined.

Event & Indoor Programs: The following events are cancelled and recurring programs are closed until further notice.

  • Youth & Adult Leisure Classes
  • Therapeutic, Health, Wellness & Fitness Classes
