SummerVistaFree Meal Sites offer Educational Programs

In an effort to prevent summer learning loss and combat hunger, 13 Summer Associates will provide drop-in activities, games, and meals at free meal sites throughout our community.

Last year over 2,000 youth were served. This year's Summer Associates will be hosted by the Spokane County Library District, Spokane Public Library, West Central Community Center, The Zone Project, Spark Central, and Spokane Parks and Recreations.

In partnership with School's Out Washington the Summer Associates will receive training to provide high-quality youth activities.

Vello
Over 10,000 Books Read, Thanks to
Guardian Life Insurance!

This past year, Spokane County United Way and Guardian Life Insurance partnered with Riverside School District to facilitate the Vello Program, a virtual tutoring program.

Guardian Life Insurance employees were connected with 2nd grade students at Chattaroy Elementary. These volunteers were given time out of their work week to virtually read to students and provide meaningful mentorship in the process.  Ann McElyea from Guardian Life Insurance said, "Vello is user-friendly, convenient, and fun! I look forward to tutoring every week and it brightens up my day to hear Violet's sweet voice. I get to make a difference from my desk, on my lunch break; the perfect opportunity for a working mom to volunteer."

Since last August, students participating in Vello at Chattaroy Elementary have improved an average of two reading levels and read, or listened to, over 10,000 books!

Congratulations Guardian Life Insurance for a great year of volunteerism and Chattaroy Elementary for such incredible student outcomes!
