RECRUITING OUR FUTURE AT NCLC

As we do every year, David Grover, Bob Grover, Montana Barrows, Molly Rios-Nogales, Mauricio Flores, and Darlene Mcconville attended the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC), at Brigham Young University in Provo Utah this past week. In addition to just attending the competition and the career fair, David Grover is chair of the NCLC committee. We are proud of you David for Leaning In and supporting our profession with your leadership here!

This is a phenomenal industry event put on by our trade association to support those colleges and universities developing the future talent of our profession. At the three day event over 600 students from 50 colleges and university attended and 80 companies from across the country participate. The event includes a career fair hiring interns and full-time graduates and also includes 45 competitive events that individuals and colleges compete in. It's an incredible opportunity for companies like Pacific to engage with universities and students. It's also a phenomenal opportunity for students to meet industry companies as they pursue careers in this great profession.  Many of the managers on our staff including David Grover, Corey Peterson, Montana Barrow, Megan Johnson, Molly Rios Nogales, Matt Silcox, Doug Crimin, Octavio Gonzalez, Mauricio Flores, Nicole Young, and Josh Weismiller attended this event when in school.

And our newest recruit from this event last year, Carinda Washburn, placed 9th out of the 600 students  in the competitions. Carinda did her internship with us last summer and has been working part time in in our design/estimating department while she finishes up her degrees at Clackamas Community College. She will enter our Account Manager Training program and be an Account Manager soon. She competed in 5 events, Sales Presentation, Hardscape Installation, Irrigation Design, Truck and Trailer Operation, and Landscape Installation. We are so proud of her and her development at CCC and with us over the past year.

As we have every year, we sponsored the teams from Oregon State, Clackamas Community College and Spokane Community College. Bob also hosted Staci Simonich, the Dean of Agriculture at OSU to provide her with the opportunity to experience this great event and to connect with the great instructors and employers from throughout the country as we continue to build and enhance the Environmental Landscape Horticulture program at OSU.

We also celebrated the awarding of the Grover Family Scholarship awarded to Ellyzabeth Jones a Junior at Oregon State University. Over 75 Scholarships were handed out at the event supporting students studying to enter this great profession.
