Rector Search Co-Chairs Announced

The search for our next Rector at St. Paul’s has begun. We are pleased to announce the Co-Chairs for the Search Committee: Mara Hazzard-Wallingford and Les Kernan. The wardens and the vestry believe Mara and Les have the knowledge, wisdom, leadership expertise, and administrative skills to prayerfully and effectively lead the parish in this very important endeavor.

Mara Hazzard-Wallingford is an active member of St. Paul’s Rochester, where she has served on the Vestry and sings in the choir. She is the founder of Overtone Strategies, a consulting and coaching practice that partners with mission-driven leaders and organizations. Mara is also a trainer with the College for Congregational Development. She served the Diocese as a delegate to the recent Diocesan Convention and as a member of the Transition Committee. Mara lives in West Henrietta with her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Emma. When Mara was invited to serve as co-chair for the search committee, she enthusiastically accepted: "I am honored to be asked to serve St. Paul’s during this time of transition."

Les Kernan is an attorney and the General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer of PathStone Corporation, a not-for-profit organization based here in Rochester. Les lives in Macedon with his wife, Pattie. Les has been privileged to be a member of the St. Paul’s community since 1983, and his adult children, Emily, Caroline, and Nick, were all baptized at St. Paul’s. Les has served as a clerk, member, and Warden of the Vestry, and has served as an Eucharistic minister, an usher, a lay reader, and a delegate to the Diocesan Convention. Les is currently the vice-chair of the Trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester, and is a member of the Investment Committee and the Constitution and Canons Committee of the Diocese, and recently participated in the Diocese’s Brand Development Workshop. When asked to serve as a co-chair of the search committee, Les enthusiastically accepted: “St. Paul’s has been and continues to be a very important part of my life. I am honored to serve our faith community in the search for its new Rector.”

The Episcopal Diocese of Rochester’s Acting Director of Ministry has provided St. Paul’s with a step-by-step transition process for our interim time and search. The next steps will include the formation of a Search Committee, the Parish Assessment, and the creation of our Parish Profile.

We will continue to share information in upcoming communications.

Parish Prayer List

We entrust into your unfailing care, Merciful God...

Those for whom our prayers have been requested: Bill & Diane Bailey, Lois, Matthew, Donna Grear, Gwen Cheney, Betty Ann Conlon, Hans Thurston, Nathan, Noreen, Scott, Bertha Simpkins, Jeff, Tom, Bob Potter, Sr., Amelia Smith, Ella Richard-Dyson, and Bill Dewart.

Our nation and the world: the President, Congress, and Supreme Court; our Governor, Mayor, and the leaders of the communities from which we come; members of our military at home and abroad; for all those elected or appointed to positions of public trust, and for peace throughout our world.

The Church throughout the world, especially for Sean Rowe, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church; Kara Wagner Sherer, Bishop of Rochester; for the clergy and staff of St. Paul's, and for our partners in ministry.

With thanksgiving: our health care professionals, first responders, essential workers, and farmworkers.

Those who have died, especially those whom we love but see no longer.

Almighty and eternal God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully accept the prayers of your people, and strengthen us to do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for St. Paul's

O God, our heavenly Father, make the door of St. Paul's Church wide enough to receive all who need love and fellowship and loving care, and narrow enough to shut out all envy, pride and uncharitableness. Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling block to children, but strong enough to turn back the tempter's power.

O heavenly Father, make the door of St. Paul's a gateway to your eternal kingdom; bless every member and worker; may all that we do and say be done and said to your honor and glory and the spreading of your kingdom. May we continue to be forever yours and daily increase through the Holy Spirit in love and service to others; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
