A sincere thank you to everyone that donated to our adopt a family, adopt a senior, dropped off meals, made financial contributions to our food pantry, donated food directly at our office, held food drives, or donated at the register at Jewel. We appreciate our supportive community and our programs are successful because of your concern for other neighbors. You all make our community a great place to live and we couldn't provide these programs without you! Thank You to Nancy in our office for her coordination of our programs.

Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year!

How Do I Recycle My Christmas Tree?

If Groot is your waste hauler, to have your Christmas tree recycled, it must be out either of the first two pickups in January. Groot will pick up the trees through January, but they will only be recycled if they are put out the first two pickups. The trees can not have tinsel, lights or ornaments on them.

You may also donate your tree to the Forest Preserve and they will recycle it into wood chips for trails and landscaping in your forest preserves.

Bring your real, undecorated tree to one of eight marked drop-off sites at preserves around Lake County, open 6:30 am–sunset daily, through

February 1, 2025. No yard waste or commercial drop-offs are accepted.

Message From Highway Commissioner Alicia Dodd

If weather allows this winter, our highway department crew would like to do their part in fighting invasive buckthorn.  If you currently have buckthorn in a section of public right of way adjacent to your property and would like it removed, we may be able to help. Please follow these steps:

  1. The right of way must be under Fremont Township jurisdiction. Use this link to show roads maintained by Fremont Township:

https://fremonthwy.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/basic/index.html?appid=5ca00a7a2b0f416c9d08eb9b2a7b4390

  1. It’s a good idea to mention the idea to neighbors who might be affected by the removal of the buckthorn.  There are many wonderful native shrub and tree replacement options to replace any lost, but desirable screening.
  2. Confirm the area is right of way and not public property—property stakes and property surveys can help with that, as can our department.

If you think your area qualifies, please contact our department at highway@fremonttownship.com or 847-223-2848.

Ice Safety

We live in a community with many lakes. Please have your family view the Countryside Fire Ice Safety video. It is a little long, but might just save someone's life.

Ride Lake County is a borderless countywide paratransit service that provides seniors age 60+ and people with disabilities transportation to any area of Lake County for work, shopping, medical appointments and more.

As a reservation-based program, vehicles do not travel on a fixed route each day. Riders schedule their trips in advance and the vehicles provide curb-to-curb service from the rider's desired pick-up and drop-off destinations. Ride Lake County is a shared-ride service, so vehicles may make stops for other passengers.
