New RecycleCT website seeks to make recycling easier for residents
 
The RecycleCT Foundation, Inc. in partnership with DEEP has re-vamped their website to help residents understand what is acceptable "in" the recycling bin, and what is not.  They are promoting "What's In, What's Out" to encourage proper recycling habits.
 
The new website, www.RecycleCT.com includes a Recycling Wizard search tool - that makes it easy to look up different products on your computer, tablet and smart phone!

There are resources available for municipalities, haulers and MRFs to download to help them spread the word, including brochures, posters, stickers, cart tags and mailing insert.

RecycleCT: What's In, What's Out

Sherill Baldwin will provide an overview of RecycleCT's new website, "What's In What's Out", including the Recycle Wizard search tool, templates and other resources available to solid waste and recycling professionals.  Presentation will also include the harmonization process of developing the universal list for recycling. There will be time for questions and discussion.

RecycleCT Foundation awards over $10,000 in grants to fund school recycling projects

The RecycleCT Foundation has distributed a second year of grants for its School Grant program.  Over $10,000 in grants were funded for projects such as linking food scrap composting with school gardens, composting & worm composting education and operations, purchasing reusable utensils instead of single use utensils, and education and signage to strengthen or expand recycling efforts.

The RecycleCT Foundation was created as a result of legislation in 2014 to raise public awareness and increase recycling participation. The legislation also called for the recycling diversion rate to increase to 60 percent by 2024. CT WRAP: Plastic Bag & Film Recycling Initiative
DEEP is looking for more municipalities, haulers and retailers interested in promoting plastic bag and film recycling.  Grocers and retailers accept plastic bag and film such as grocery bags, newspaper bags, product bags, bread bags, dry cleaning bags and even zipper bags for recycling. They also accept plastic wraps from water bottle cases, diapers, bathroom tissue, and paper towels, as well as bubble wrap and shipping pillows.

If interested in being a local "Champion" to help residents keep plastic film out of curbside recycling and bring it back to local retailers, please contact Sherill Baldwin.

To better support WRAP Communities and Partners, the American Chemistry Council is pleased to provide a new "Roadmap to WRAP."

This guide provides step-by-step instructions, tools, and tips to support community campaigns and education.
