Entertainers Entertain

Each year the City of Covington's Cultural Arts and Events Department brings professional entertainers from across the country to our own Fuhrmann Auditorium. These folks have typically performed in Vegas, Branson, on cruise ships and on late night / day time talk shows.

Upcoming shows feature Hank Williams Sr. (OK, it's not really Hank, but rather a critically acclaimed tribute artist), that hilarious nun lady Vicki Quade and a remarkable Ray Charles impressionist. The final show of this season is a musical combining Broadway tunes with Covington colloquialisms.

All should be a good time ... right here between the rivers. To renew your season passport or to purchase one, please bring a check to the Hank show on September 15th. A check is a piece of paper issued by your bank with lots of little numbers at the bottom and can be used similar to Venmo.

Prices for past passport holders will remain the same as in the past. Tickets range from $20 for open seating to $25/ show for reserved seating.

Recycling Reminders

Please leave your recyclables loose in the cart. Do not put them in trash bags. Plastic bags are not recyclable and damage / disable the machinery used in the recycling of paper. Hence, recyclables in plastic bags do not get recycled … they go to the landfill.

Please remember to remove your recycling cart/bin from the curb once it has been emptied. If your recycling cart/bin is at the curb on your scheduled garbage day, it will be dumped with the garbage.

No plastic bags nor glass.

Covington Garden Club

National Award!

The National Garden Clubs, Inc. recently awarded the Flower Show Achievement Award Certificate of Merit for 2021 to our very own Covington Garden Club (CGC).

A National Award:

It's kind of a big deal.

Accepting the award on behalf of the CGC are Club President, Donna Moran (right) and Louisiana Garden Clubs Federation's 2nd VP and CGC member Kyle Martin.

The show entitled “Happiness is Homemade!” took place in April  2021 at the Bogue Falaya Hall.

I saw the show. The presentations were magnificent.

Special congratulations to Flower Show Chairperson Kim Vanek for pulling it all together and for Table Artistry Best in Show.

Another Covington Community Garden

Gets a Little Help

Thanks to the St. Paul's Lacrosse team for kick starting the new Covington Community Garden across from Pineview Middle School. Along with the Bogue Chitto Park garden and the Martin Luther King Garden across from Greater Starlight Baptist, this makes three community gardens for our community. Very Cool.

Leadership St. Tammany

Class of 2023 Inductees

Excited to see another Leadership St. Tammany class kick-off the year. Existing and emerging leaders from across St. Tammany Parish will study (for the next 10 months) the best of our Parish along with its greatest challenges. From all walks of life, from all parts of the Parish and multi-generational, the only point of agreement is "let's make the parish better." They don't even agree on how this might best be done.

The Program began in 1993 spearheaded by Diane Winston, Ed Dillard and JoAnne Gallinghouse. Since then it has graduated over 600 leaders who serve our community on non-profit boards, in law enforcement, as municipal and parish government employees, business leaders, community activists, local and state elected officials and more.

I'm happy to report Amy G. Fresh will serve this year as Program Assistant. Also happy to report I will continue as the Program Director.
