NEWS & NOTES: from your local chapter
North Bay Chapter Highlights - Here are just a few of the many activities that make the North Bay Chapter — and the people affiliated with it — so very special:
Volunteer Opportunities
There are a number of volunteers needs we have on various teams in the Central Coast Chapter. These include our work with the Sound the Alarm installation events, with Youth Services, Disaster Cycle Services, Biomedical Services, and many more.

Check out our latest list of Volunteer Opportunities.
Sound the Alarm in Solano
Join us to install smoke alarms at approximately 150 homes on Saturday, September 16 at the Triology Senior Community in Rio Vista. Volunteer Installers, Educators and Documenters are needed! For details email Susan Reese at [email protected]
Our Disaster Action Teams - In June, our North Bay teams helped numerous individuals and families impacted by disasters.

  • Solano County: 4 DAT cases and 13 clients were assisted with food, emergency housing, clothing and counseling.

  • Marin County: 1 DAT case and 1 client was assisted with food, emergency housing, clothing and counseling.

A big thanks to our remarkable disaster responders, assisting these 14 clients in those 5 responses would not be possible without them.

Red Cross Disaster Action Teams
Since 1964 Disaster Action Teams have served as the foundation of the American Red Cross disaster relief in our communities, responding every day to home fires and other disasters that are devastating for those affected, but may not be featured in the news.

This video showcases the Disaster Action Team Program, spotlighting some of the dedicated and compassionate volunteers who support their local communities.

If you are interested in joining DAT, contact Leland Montell for Napa-Sonoma or Robert Gaines for Marin-Solano.

Empowering Young Hearts: Fifth Graders Fundraise for Turkey-Syria Earthquake Relief
The students in Ms. Mary Horath’s 5th grade class at Gateway School in Santa Cruz were moved to help when they heard about the 7.8 magnitude Turkey-Syria earthquake on February 6, 2023.

The students held a school-wide walk-a-thon to raise money for disaster relief and response efforts. They went door-to-door to collect pledges, put up posters, and encouraged their classmates to participate. They even bought, sliced, and passed out orange slices to the walk-a-thon participants. All of their hard work paid off: They raised more than $15,000, which they were eager to donate to the American Red Cross. Read the full story in our blog.
IBEA: Red Cross at San Francisco Pride Parade
On June 25, our dedicated volunteers proudly represented the Red Cross at the San Francisco Pride Parade.
This parade was a huge success because of you! We’d like to thank our volunteers, staff, family and friends for their commitment, time and support.

As we start planning for next year, check here for the fabulous photos that our photographers, Gabriel Williams and Ash Mantri, took during the parade.

If you’d like to be part of the Pride Initiative or join us in the IBEA taskforce please email [email protected]
