LaGuardia Theater Students Compete at Regionals of Preeminent National Theater Festival

On Monday evening, LaGuardia Theater students presented a showcase of work they are competing with this week at regionals for the 2024 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), the preeminent theater competition for two- and four-year colleges nationwide. LaGuardia students competing at Region 1 include Jaden Fabio, nominated by Professor Stefanie Sertich for the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) Directing award, and Michael Hernandez, competing for a Musical Theatre award. Seven students are competing for Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships, including Bambo Coulibaly, Rafael De La Cruz, Michael Hernandez, Dickel Jallow, Hanifah Johnson, Liz Pratt, and Annabelle Pàez. Many students will be performing scenes from LaGuardia Theater Program productions Big Love and Everybody, which has been selected to be a featured performance at KCACTF Region 1. LaGuardia students have a strong track record at KCACTF regionals and the annual national festival held each April. Break a leg to the students (and their faculty supporters)!

Black History Month Events Scheduled in February

LaGuardia is celebrating Black History Month during February with a variety of activities and events hosted across campus. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the celebration was the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history. Click here to see the full schedule of events.
