Join the Lenten Covenant
Here’s how the Lenten Covenant works: each person agrees to pray for the others on the list and read the Bible each day during Lent. When you pray and what part of the Bible you choose to read is up to you as long as you commit to doing so each day. (For more details, click HERE.) The easiest way to join is to email Rev. Roy at stmarkscrector@gmail.com or pick up a form in the narthex and drop it in the offering plate or bring it by the Center. Deadline for signing up is March 3.
Ash Wednesday is March 6
St. Mark's will hold services of Holy Eucharist with the imposition of ashes at noon and 5:30 PM.
Attention ushers, acolytes, gospel bearers, readers, sacristans, new volunteers
A sign-up call went out today to our regular servers to fill the schedule from Ash Wednesday through 2 Easter (Apr. 28). If you received it, please reply with your available dates promptly. If you're not on the list, we encourage you to volunteer. Not only will you be performing a valuable service to your church, you may also find that it deepens your own worship experience. Check the online schedule HERE (3 pages) and contact the office to get started. Dates aren't set in stone--later adjustments can be made.
Session of Inquirers Class added
In addition to the 4th session of the Inquirers Classes on Tues. and Wed. Feb. 26-27, there will be a 5th session on Tues. and Wed., March 5-6. A make-up class will take place on Sat., March 9, at 10 AM. The make-up class is mandatory only for those planning to be confirmed or received .

Epworth by the Sea, St. Simons Island, Oct. 18-20
That's the location and date for our Parish Retreat. We've reserved 30 rooms and so far 12 of them have been tentatively spoken for. So...should we reserve more rooms? That's what we're trying to figure out at this early date. Cost, all meals included, is $104 for shared rooms and $154 for singles, per person per night, plus tax. Check your calendar and let Carter know at carterhoyt@comcast.net if you're a "yes" or a "maybe." Your decision at this point is non-binding. To view the rooms and other facilities, click this link www.epworthbythesea.org.
Habitat Faith Build--join the team
Beginning Mar. 14, Sally Mayse will lead a St. Mark's team for a half-day each week until the new Habitat house in Mossy Oaks is finished. The team doesn't need to be the same each week and carpentry skills aren't required. If you've never attended volunteer orientation, a 45 minute session is held the 2nd Saturday of each month at 10 AM at the Habitat offices, no reservation necessary. Call or email Sally to sign on at 843 838-3407 or smayse44@gmail.com
Eric Liddell, Missionary to China, Feb. 22
It's been a big week on the church calendar--Martin Luther, Frederick Douglass, John Henry Newman, and tomorrow Eric Liddell, whose story was told in the 1981 movie Chariots of Fire. Liddell refused to run the 100-meter race that he was favored to win in the Paris Olympics because it was on the sabbath. Instead he ran the 400 on another day and won the gold. He died in a Japanese prison camp in China in 1945 after giving up his chance at liberation to a pregnant woman.
Meet your 2019 Vestry. From left John Moses, Jim Rowe, Wendy Wilson (clerk), Celeste Nalwasky, Patty Crower, Dick Balkite, Tom Miller, Lewis Tabb (treasurer). Not pictured: Roy Tripp, Barney Forsythe, Wesley Byrne and Beth Campbell. Special thanks for their service to retiring members Linda Finnin and Mike Seymour and to retiring clerk Charlie Davis.
