Announcements for September 20, 2018
Parish Picnic & Ministry Fair Sept. 30
Come on out after the 11 AM service on Sunday, Sept. 30, for a southern favorite--"Dinner on the Grounds." Bring your favorite picnic dish to share--drinks and paper products will be provided. You'll also have a chance to pick up a St. Mark's "Life & Ministry" booklet and sign up for one or more of the literally dozens of outreach and other volunteer activities in which St. Mark's is involved. Johan Peers needs people to help set up tables, get food on the table and clear away. Please contact her at jpeers18@gmail.com to say you'll help! Note: Our reheating facilities are extremely limited. Please bring food ready to serve.
W.W.J.V - Why Would Jesus Vote?
That's the title for the first class in our Adult Ed program for this fall. WWJV is a good question to ask as we prepare for the mid-term elections in November. As Christians, what is our civic responsibility when it comes to our electoral process? This class will look at the reasoning supporting our need to live into our faith in the public square. The reality is that in contemporary America, church and state often intertwine. Join Rev. Roy for a non-partisan look at voting and faith.  The one-session class will meet on Wed., Oct. 3, at 6:30 PM.
Sign up for a foyer group
Debbie Phelps is in the process of organizing foyer groups for the upcoming season. Now's the time to contact Debbie here if you'd like to be in a group. A kick-off party will be held on Oct. 14--details to come. You don't need to attend the kick-off party to be included in a group.
Two events set for Saturday
St. Mark's is a sponsor of "Walk for Water" to be held this Saturday. For information on how to participate, contact Westley Byrne at wapwb1@gmail.com . Water Mission works to provide safe drinking water throughout the world.

In conjunction with other area churches, St. Mark's will take part in the "Have Faith! Vote" non-partisan voter registration drive from 11AM to 1 PM. St. Mark's registration desk will be in front of the Center. Contact Carter Hoyt for information at carterhoyt@comcast.net or (404) 936-5695.
Altar flower delivery
St. Mark's needs 5 volunteers to be responsible for getting altar flowers to the ill or shut-in or to one of the nearby nursing homes each Sunday after the 11 AM service. Volunteers can take the flowers themselves or designate another person, such as a neighbor. Each volunteer will be responsible for only one Sunday of the month. We also need inexpensive vases. If you've accumulated glass florist vases 9-10 inches tall that you don't want, please drop them by the Center. Contact Julie in the office to volunteer for this ministry.

Homelessness never takes a holiday
From Oct. 14-21 St. Mark's will co-host families at St. John's Lutheran. George Utter needs two meal teams for Tuesday and Thursday, male and female greeters on the 16th and 18th, and two people to spend the night on the 18th. Sign up in the Center or notify George at gbu.187@gmail.com.
Follow-up surveys from attendees at our Parish Retreat at Kanuga were overwhelmingly positive! We're exploring the possibility of a retreat next year later in September at Kanuga or an alternate conference center. The climax of the weekend (shown above) was the lakeside Eucharist on Sunday morning. Patricia Turk was the celebrant, assisted by Roy.
