National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
February 7, 2020
"The first National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) was marked in 1999 as an effort to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS prevention, care, and treatment in communities of color. This day is an opportunity to increase HIV education and testing among black communities. Black Americans continue to be disproportionately affected by the HIV epidemic; the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that in 2017, African Americans accounted for 43% of all HIV Diagnoses in the United States. However, through outreach, education, and community involvement, we as a community can make progress towards eliminating the stigma surrounded by HIV and AIDS."
