Red Ribbon Week is celebrated annually from October 23rd to October 31st. It is the nation's largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign.

It began in 1985 in response to the tragic murder of DEA agent Enrique (Kiki) Camarena who was killed by drug traffickers. In honor of his memory, and his battle against illegal drugs, people across the nation began wearing redribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America.

Today, Red Ribbon week serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participaton in drug prevention activities.
