Redistricting in Colorado, Springs Car Camping Ban, More Colorado Medicaid Fraud, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • One group in Colorado is pushing for a ballot initiative that would allow the state to draw new congressional districts outside of the mandated schedule. These groups are primarily left-leaning politically and want to make Colorado a leftist state forever.

  • New Mexico is making childcare free! No, not really. What they are doing is making all childcare in the state taxpayer-funded, which is clearly not free.

  • Denver officials are putting the brakes on an ambitious plan to build data centers in the city. Data centers use a significant amount of water, something that Colorado frequently lacks. Additionally, the Polis plan to force us all into his green energy fantasy will likely make data centers and modern living unfeasible.

  • Millions in Medicaid transportation fraud are being uncovered in Colorado. Structural problems inherent in the Medicaid system, combined with the Colorado legislature exploding the Colorado Medicaid budget by handing Medicaid out to anyone who wants it, assure us that this is just the tip of the fraud iceberg in Colorado.

  • Tourism taxes in Colorado have never been higher. You would think most of the revenue collected from these taxes would go toward tourism. However, very little does.

  • A bill has been introduced in Congress that could help lower housing costs. This bill would encourage states to reduce costly green energy mandates that drastically increase the cost of building a home. Officials in Colorado, who have imposed a slew of costly energy mandates on new home construction, are not impressed.

  • Because you still do not have enough government nannyism in your life, the City of Colorado Springs is responding to a law, passed by the Colorado legislature in 2022, by developing schemes to make you recycle more.

  • Jeffco schools are, once again, hiring perverts who prey on children. This latest incident shows that Jeffco hired a teacher who had been dismissed from a different district for secretly filming middle school boys and even selling some of the videos. This is just another in a long, long line of incidents at Jeffco schools.

  • One Denver addiction support nonprofit spent taxpayer funds on liquor and dining for its staff. This nonprofit also neglected to provide itemized receipts for reported spending. Of course they did. Taxpayers struggle, while those who receive taxpayer dollars live the good life.

  • Denver has decided to end their Flock traffic camera contract. The primary deciding factor was the desire to protect illegal immigrants from lawful deportation efforts.

  • The Meadows Park Community Center in Colorado Springs was closed as a way to save the city money. Now, the city is accepting proposals from private groups who would like to take over the management of services at this community center.

  • Did you know the Pikes Peak Library District has toys and playrooms for children? Some of these toys can be checked out like books.

  • The Front Range Passenger Rail District will give you an opportunity to voice your opinion on the project in Colorado Springs. This meeting will be held on March 26th at the Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center. Details appear below in our miscellaneous meetings section.

  • New wildfire codes in Colorado may force homeowners in wildfire-prone areas to boost the fire resistance of their homes. One company is offering a free assessment of what homeowners might need to do to comply with the new codes.

  • The City of Colorado Springs is cutting services for local parks in response to a shrinking budget. Colorado Springs parks will need to cut over $3 million in services. Here is a list of the services that are expected to be cut so far.

  • School District 49 in Falcon, one of Colorado’s largest school districts, has cut 50 teacher and administrative positions. This move comes as more and more financial challenges have impacted the district.

  • Colorado Springs Utilities is always looking for new sources of water for the city. With all the development and growth over the past few years, CSU has often looked to outside water sources to meet this need. Is it responsible to continue developing large apartment buildings when supplying these developments with water is increasingly difficult?

  • Colorado Springs City Council has finally voted to ban car camping in the city. This is a step in the right direction for law and order in the city.

  • Colorado Springs City Council also approved $4.8 million in federal grant spending for homeless support. Much of this funding will go toward housing programs, such as rental assistance and rehabilitation of existing properties.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.
