President
September was a great month for Redwood Region. There were a few very memorable events thanks to the hard work of some dedicated Board members.
First was the PCA 70th Anniversary Celebration at the Culinary Institute. Pat Bruke put on a wonderful event for over 100 Redwood members and coordinated with our neighbors at Golden Gate Region for another 100 of their members. What a beautiful day and fitting celebration of the Club that has brought us all together.
Another shout out to Stacy O’Connell whose dedication to AX brought us the 1st local Redwood event in over 10 years. It was so nice to see everyone having fun with a bit more spirited use of their car. Hopefully this was only the first of many in the future.
What can I say about the Murphy’s Tour. Jeff Hall does an amazing job of coordinating a weekend full of fun and still allowing time to relax. My highlight this year was painting with Kelly Telfer. I am a huge fan of his work and having the opportunity to take a lesson and paint with him was a blast.
We are not slowing down in October. Don’t forget this weekend is our annual Concours for the Zone 7 Series. Even if you are not participating come out to the Sonoma Plaza on the 12th to see the cars and visit with friends.
Our annual Members Social is the 25th at Northwoods Bistro. This year we have invited our 2025 New Members to join so we need all the experienced members to come out and show them what makes Redwood Region so much fun.
PCA is not just the cars it’s the people. You all make the events special. Come on out and show the new members just how much they will enjoy the people of Redwood Region.
Hope to see you there

Vice President
Happy October to you all!
As we begin another month in our Redwood Region, we’re excited and looking forward to several upcoming events that are just before us.
This month on Thursday, October 16th there is a mid-week drive with lunch at an exclusive Sonoma County winery, DRNK. And our Annual Member Social Gathering, which is required by our bylaws, is on Saturday the 25th at the Northwoods Bistro in Monte Rio. This annual membership meeting will give you an opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow Redwood Region members (both long term and new) and meet next
year’s executive board nominees who are running for election. Spoiler alert, yours truly is on the slate as your President with Jeff Hall as VP, Eileen Gaines as Secretary and Don Magdanz as our Treasurer. There are links provided to register for both events on our calendar.
And it’s not too early to start planning for our annual Holiday Party on December 6th being held once again at the fabulous Marin Yacht Club in San Rafael. Last year’s Prime Rib dinner was a sell out so don’t miss registering for this year’s celebration. We will once again enjoy friendship and cheer as we dance away the evening to a live band. There will be registration information in the November newsletter.
We’re already beginning to plan events for 2026, and we’d love for you to be involved in any way that you can. Please consider joining us for one of our monthly Board meetings which are always on the last Tuesday of the month at Torches Restaurant in Petaluma and, your dinner will be on us! You know, we are “Fueled by volunteers. It’s not just the cars, it’s the people!”
I’ve been extremely honored to be your Vice President for the last two years and I look forward to seeing you at one or more of our future events. I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you!
| You can always reach out to me directly. Email | | |
Uncle Ferry wants you to join the P.O.S.S.E!
Octocber 26th.
8 am to 10 am.
| | |
What’s this, you ask?
It’s the Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event.
Who’s invited?
Any Porsche owner or driver, regardless of the model they have.
When is it?
Every fourth Sunday of the month from 8 am to 10 am.
Where is it?
In front of Starbucks, at the familiar Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, in Novato.
How much will it cost?
Nothing, nada, zip, zero.
Why is this happening?
It’s an opportunity for Porsche owners to have an informal get-together, at a North Bay location, before going to brunch, heading to the hills, cruising to the coast… or, wherever one wishes to drive that day. It’s a chance to meet and talk to your fellow Porsche owners. It’s a chance to put names and faces with the cars. It’s a chance to show off your ride!
See you there!
| | | REDWOOD'S PCA 70th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION!! | | |
Pat Burke
It was truly an amazing event at the Culinary Institute of America on September 13th!
On the day of the Porsche Club of America’s 70th anniversary, The Redwood Region joined with the Golden Gate Region to celebrate this milestone while 179 other regions spread amongst 14 zones also celebrated nationwide.
Our event started in a South Napa staging location with almost 100 region members in 55 cars gathered to begin the day of celebration. After a short mandatory drivers’ meeting, three groups set out on a fabulous drive through the eastern reaches of Napa County. It was a beautiful day and the vistas were marvelous. Lake Hennessy never looked better, and the twisty road of Highway 128 didn’t disappoint.
| After descending back into the Napa Valley, the drive continued north up the Silverado Trail to our destination at the Culinary Institute of America’s Greystone Campus in St. Helena. As we arrived in the parking lot, we were greeted by a PCA Test Drive member and Managing Director of California Campus, Adam Busby and members of his staff. | The Golden Gate Region who joined us for the day had almost an equal number of cars on their driving tour via western Marin & Sonoma Counties arriving at almost the same coordinated time. The photo opportunities of nearly 120 Porsches were spectacular with almost every model of Porsche in attendance. | | After enjoying a wonderful lunch prepared by the chefs in the Café, there was a short presentation where Chef Busby shared the history of the Greystone Campus, which was the old Christian Brothers Winery. After the history review, Kyle Festog, General Manager of Porsche Marin, presented a check to the CIA Foundation in the amount of $1000.00 which will benefit the chef students in study at the CIA. We couldn’t be happier to have Porsche Marin as a Redwood Region sponsor, and we truly value that relationship. | | Presenting the $1,000 check are Redwood President Sharon Neidel, CIA's Managing Director Adam Busby, Porsche Marin's Kyle Festog, Redwood VP. Pat Burke and Redwood's Dealer Liaison Jeff Hall. | | |
All attendees to our event received a commemorative challenge coin as well as a custom etched PCA 70th logoed wine glass. Both are sure to be collectors’ items. And, we are fortunate to have such a special relationship with the CIA and will very much look forward to having them as future event partners for many years to come.
It was a special day!

| | BREDWOOD REGION’S ANNUAL IRONSTONE CONCOURS WEEKEND IN MURPHYS | | |
Jeff Hall
Twenty-three Redwood Region members, in thirteen Porsches took advantage of great weather and even greater roads in Murphys, CA for the Fourth Annual Ironstone Concours weekend.
Always a favorite three-day weekend in the Gold Country, twenty-one of our members met at the Jelly Belly Factory on Thursday, September 25th for the trek to Murphys. After a wonder lunch at Pietro’s Trattoria in Lodi (highly recommended) we were off to our destination…
| | |
Katherine Zimmer, David Bunch and Eileen Gaines enjoying the
shopping spree at the Jelly Belly Factory!
| | |
The group had the afternoon to explore Murphys on their own and everyone branched off for dinner at some of the wonderful restaurants in Murphys included the new Branding Iron Steakhouse, V Bistro and Murphys Historic Hotel.
Pat Burke and Jeff Hall visited Murphys the week prior to the event to review the “pre-planned” tours to make sure the roads were still clear and the horrific fires of last month didn’t impact any of our routes. The good news was most of the roads were still passable / bad news was that our original route included some badly burned areas. We made some last-minute changes to the route to avoid the burned-out areas and out of respect for the folks that lost their homes in the blaze…
| | |
The result was a quick-paced route through some of the windy roads in Calaveras County – the roads are always like glass and are so much fun to drive on! The drive ended at Kelly Telfer’s Studio in Sonora. Most of you know Kelly is a renown Porsche artist: he routinely designs the posters for Werks and other Porsche events and is a featured artist at the Petersen Automotive Museaum in Los Angeles.
Kelly hosted a Barbecue chicken lunch with all the fixin’s. Our own Vice President, Pat “Emeril” Burke was the guest chef for the day and knocked it out of the park!! We dined in Kelly’s Gallery and were surrounded by some of his most beautiful paintings.
| | Chef Pat cooking up a storm! | | One of the highlights of the weekend was the post-lunch art class taught by Kelly himself. He prepared canvases for us all with the outline of either a 911 or a 356… It was up to us to complete the task. We were provided with acrylic paints, brushes, smocks and our own creative genius! Kelly and his brother advised us along the way during the 90 minutes we had to come up with something that would make Rembrandt cringe – and we did just that. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the class and took home their wares to proudly hang somewhere in their homes… | | |
Redwood Members showing off their finished projects!
That’s Kelly back left with the “thumbs up”!
| | Friday concluded with the 4th Annual BBQ Dinner on the Patio at the Historic Murphys Hotel. As always, the chef didn’t disappoint – there’s a reason we’ve done this for four years running. The food and wine were incredible, and we were joined by Peter Watler and Daphene Feng of the Golden Gate Region to round out our crew. Great time to visit with old friends and make new ones… Also, a group of members of the Sierra Nevada Region were having dinner at the Murphys Hotel and we were able to visit with them. | | Finally, Saturday was upon us! After a spirited ride through Calaveras County, and stopping for a group photo op, we arrived at the Ironstone Winery and Concours d’Elegance. | | Group photo op overlooking New Melones Lake. | | We arrived at our “corral” on the grassy knoll adjacent to the Ironstone Winery and a short stroll to the Concours. Sixteen members from the Yosemite Region, in eight Porsches, joined us for a sumptuous tailgate party in the cool, shady spot reserved just for us! It doesn’t get any better than people in Porsches picnicking their hearts out! We also had eight members in five Porsches made the drive up from the Central Coast Region to attend the Concours. | | A beautiful day for a picnic! | | The featured marque of the Concours was the iconic Porsche 356! There were approximately 30 356s varying in years, styles and, of course, colors. In all there were close to 300 cars being exhibited at the Concours from Lana Turner’s dual-cowl phaeton, to a 1904 “curved dash” Oldsmobile / from an early 1900’s Sear’s Buggy (priced competitively according to the catalog page at $395) to your run of the mill corral of Panteras… | Another Ironstone Concours in the books. This will be our final “official” Redwood visit to the event. While several folks booked their rooms for 2026, we are currently seeking out a new venue to hold another three-day extravaganza. So, stay tuned for news on a completely new getaway for next year. | |

Redwood Charity Liaison
Hi all, just a quick update from the UK, noting that most of the Porsches I have seen here (especially in Scotland) have been diesel Cayennes. They are going for durability, I guess! A couple of optimistic Boxster owners I saw on the Isle of Skye probably lurk for weeks until a sunny day comes along and then enjoy roads that would really test a radar detector. I sure hope they have garages.
In charity news, thanks to those of you who have filled up the club’s next planned “Charity
Adventure Day” to support the Redwood Empire Food Bank on Tuesday November 4th. Should
be another great day of supporting our neighbors!

Homeward Bound of Marin will be putting on a “Trunk-or-Treat” event in Novato on the
afternoon of Wednesday October 29th, from 4:30 to 6:00, where 30 or more children in their
shelter and housing programs who are overcoming homelessness have an opportunity to
participate in a costume parade and trick-or-treat within a circle of cars which have decorated
their trunks. Since our “frunks” always generate a lot of interest, I’m hoping a few of you would
be willing to bring your car, some candy, and a decorated frunk to Homeward Bound to
participate in this fun event! Please email me for more info, but here is more info about the
Trunk-or-Treat concept. Jeff Hall has done this before and loved the experience. Car owners are of course welcome to be in costume! I believe Lisa and I will pull out the lederhosen and dirndl to be Hansel and Gretel supporting our German marque!

Autocross Director
Redwood Region hosted its first local autocross in years — and what a great day it was! In September, 48 drivers joined us at the Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, with an almost even mix of PCA and ESCA participants, bringing plenty of familiar faces along with new drivers eager to give this crazy sport a try.
The course was a fun challenge, and 14 drivers took advantage of instruction – a great sign of growing interest. Having PCA and ESCA members on course together made for a welcoming and competitive day, and continued the strong partnership between our clubs.
Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, instructed, cheered from the sidelines, and even helped move the CarMart fence. With this kind of turnout and enthusiasm, we’re optimistic about teaming up with ESCA for more dates next season.
Find timing results on our website and explore pictures in two galleries here and here.
And the season isn’t over yet! Join us for the Redwood Zone event at Thunderhill on October 19 and the final ESCA autocross of 2025 at the Fairgrounds on November 1.
Any questions? Email me.

Summer is in the rearview mirror, or camera, depending on the vintage of your Porsche. Last month was, as usual, full of great PCA - RR events but they don’t stop when September ends. There are plenty of activities to look forward to in October. Our monthly emailed “der Riesenbaum”, is always a great way to find out what is upcoming with the club. It also has cool stories and photos from events that occurred during the previous month. Another great source to learn about upcoming events is the Region’s website. You can access it by clicking on:
Redwood Region.
This October Membership Report addresses changes that occurred during the past month of
September. At the end of September our Redwood Region had a total of 1,165 Members/Co-
members (755 Primary Members and 410 Affiliate/Co-Members), 6 of whom joined in
September. This month showed a net gain of 8 members.. In September we did had 3 members
transfer in from other regions, with one transferring out. We now have 17 Active Test Drive
Participants; although none of these signed up in September. We are working to help these Test
Drive Participants find their dream Porsches and convert to full membership.
| | |
PCA would also like to have any of our members who have not registered a co-member to consider adding one. There is no additional cost, and the co-member receives all of the benefits
that the full member receives with the exception that they will not receive a mailed copy of PCA’s “Panorama” magazine. They will, however, have access to the digital version. Frequently the co-member is a significant other. However, this does not have to be the case. Sign-up an offspring, a sibling, a best friend or maybe a co-worker and spread the good word about Porsche and the PCA!
| | |
43 of our Redwood Region members celebrated their five year, or more, PCA Membership
Anniversaries in September. They are all shown in the table below. This month our longest
continuous member is Mr. James Hurson. James can be seen driving a 1971 911T around the
streets of Santa Rosa. James has been a PCA member for 53 continuous years.
All of our Region members are encouraged to join the monthly Board Meeting held on the last
Tuesday of every month. The Board meets in a private room at Torches restaurant at 265
Petaluma Blvd. N, in downtown Petaluma. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 PM but you’ll
want to arrive much earlier to allow time catch up with fellow PCA - RR attendees. All members,
and their input, are welcome. Join in and the club will pick up your dinner tab. (Food and non-
alcoholic beverages only). See you soon at an upcoming event.
As always, please email me any questions about membership.
Thanks, Brad.

This weekend is the final IMSA race of 2025 Motul Petit Le Mans from Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta with the PENSKE 963 Porsches currently in first and second in the Championship points in Grand Touring Prototype (GTP).
-
Matt Campbell/Mathieu Jaminet, No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963, 2,582 points
- Nick Tandy/Felipe Nasr, No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963, 2,451 (-131)
A top-seven finish clinches the title for Campbell and Jaminet regardless of Tandy and Nasr’s achievements. Even if Tandy and Nasr delivered a perfect points weekend, their maximum achievable is 2,836 points. Campbell and Jaminet could qualify last and finish seventh to wrap the title.
| | |
In the GTD PRO Class, Corvette Racing leads with AO Racing's REXY Porsche currently in fourth place. REXY could still win the championship with a lot of help.
In the GTD Class, Wright Motorsports Porsche is fifth in Class with a small chance still for the championship.
Good luck this weekend to all the Porsche teams.

Continuing on brought us to Paducah, Kentucky, home of the National Quilt Museum and then to Crossville, Tennessee where we took a great hike at Burgess Falls State Park and saw a great play at the Cumberland County Playhouse.
We continued along the Blue Ridge Parkway – a slow paced and relaxing drive revealing stunning long-range vistas and close up views of the rugged mountains and pastoral landscapes of the Appalachian Highland - with overnights in Abingdon and Roanoke, Virginia.
| | Finally, we reached the PCA Treffen at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. As usual, the Treffen combined great drives, wonderful accommodations and wonderful people and cars. One of the drives included a visit to the Green Bank Observatory - home of the Green Bank telescope, the world’s largest, fullest steerable radio telescope. | | The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa | | After the Treffen was over, we travelled north, spending the night in Triadelphia, West Virginia but first stopping at Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold, a Hindu temple in New Vrindaban, West Virginia. The next day took us to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. with a stay in Toledo. Continuing our drive west, we stopped in Sandusky for an incredibly awesome cup of ice cream at the Tofts factory store. Our drive back home followed the Lincoln Highway. This highway, started in 1912, begins in Times Square in New York City and ends in Lincoln Park in San Francisco. | | In Illinois, we stayed at the Starved Rock Lodge located in the park of the same name. Then we drove to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, via the Amana Colonies. Amana is made up of seven villages that had its roots in Germany and flourished in the US during a communal era for over 90 years. In Cedar Rapids, we visited the Museum of Art which had a great collection of Grant Wood paintings. | | On to Nebraska… We went to the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island. It includes an excellent re-creation of a historic Railroad Town. Afterwards, we stopped at the Great Platte River Archway Monument which spans over Interstate 80. We then made our way to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, enjoying an excellent hike to Fish Creek Falls. | | |
Our last two days included overnights in Park City, Utah and Lovelock, Nevada. We enjoyed great weather throughout the trip except…on our way home the last day, it was snowing as we went over Donner Summit!
We love our road trips in “The “Banana.”
