Greetings all RAA Family & Friends,
"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." We have come to the end of another successful week, and we are blessed for its success.
I am happy to announce that our administration building permit has been approved. So, over the next month and a half we are going to see some more construction alongside the four Redwood trees on the west side of our campus. God has been good, and we are so thankful to our team of contractors and architects for moving forward with our rebuild on RAA campus.
Parents, you would have noticed the temperature has changed, please make sure that your child is properly dressed for the weather. Layering would be awesome since it warms up in the day. You are also requested that you continue to monitor your child’s health, since we are still on high alert regarding the COVID-19 variant.
Enjoy the weekend, be blessed, and stay safe.

At Redwood Adventist Academy, we know the importance of putting great books in the hands of our students in order to inspire lifelong readers. Please help our school purchase new high-interest books from Scholastic through our RAA Reads Fundraiser. All of the donated money will go towards putting new, high quality books in our individual classroom libraries. The students will help choose the books we purchase. We know the magic of reading is not found on a worksheet, and instead is discovered when students get lost in a book and can’t put it down. Please help us fill our classroom libraries with books that inspire and entertain our kids. Click on the link below to check out our campaign.

Highlights From Our Week
This week we were very blessed by Mr. Walker. During our farm time with him, he taught us how to plant carrots that we will later harvest. He showed the students how to dig the holes, insert the plant into the holes, and how to carefully cover it all up. Then we were further blessed by him joining us at our Forest Time for the picking of black berries. The students also were able to try a mint plant, and we will be harvesting lettuce from in front of our classroom on Monday.
We have worked hard this week with our Math and Phonics. We are working with getting familiar with some math key terms like equal, greater than, and less than. The students have been comparing sets of objects and explaining why one group is bigger or smaller than the other. In Phonics we worked on the letter Gg this week, and students have sounded out their first word, log. I am proud of all the students and their hard work.

Highlights From Our Week
- This week we finished our theme of sound and our tour of these geographical areas: France, North America, China, Argentina, and Australia. Friday focused differentiating between living and non-living things. The students worked in teams and recorded their field work in their journals which shown in the photo above. Along with our regular math curriculum we worked on how to tell time with an analogue clock. On Friday we also celebrated our filled marble jar! The students earn marbles for returned homework, clean desks and good behavior. When the jar is full, they get a party. So this coming Friday a party we will have!

- Jackets: Please check the labels of any jackets your child brought home. We have at least one family who is missing an item and several of the kids may have the same style jackets. Thank you!
- Our class needed to wait until this week to do Maps testing due to computer and internet issues. Please help your kids get a good night's rest and a good breakfast.
- Please continue review of math facts through discussion, flash cards, or games!

Highlights From Our Week
The third and fourth grade class kept busy this week taking their MAP Growth assessments. However, when the kids were not busy assessing, they had a good time exploring local plant and animal life near the creek and then identifying what they found using the Seek app with Mr. Meyer. The class used the classification system they learned about in science class to determine which category of living things their specimens belonged to. The students were excited to find several invertebrates like crayfish, a woodpecker, baby American toads, and a variety of native plants. The kids were also eager to finally plant their broccoli starts in our class garden with Mr. Walker on Thursday. We can’t wait to harvest broccoli later in the year. Another highlight of the week was when the students worked with partners to create a Google slide about the life cycle of an animal of their choice. The kids will showcase their knowledge and creativity when they present their projects next week.

- Please label your child’s jackets and hoodies so that they can be easily returned if they are left outside. We do not have the storage space to keep several items and so clothes will be frequently taken to the Goodwill if they are not claimed.

Highlight From Our Week
Boy are we glad this week is over. MAP testing for three days can be quite the challenge, especially if the internet does not want to cooperate. However, we made it through, and it will be nice to get back to our regularly scheduled program. ☺ The blessings of this week is that we have outdoor education and band to give the kids’ brains a break from the rigor of testing. Here are some pictures of our students in action!
