The Mission of the Jonathan Foundation has expanded this year to include a focus on brain health. The mission is to touch the lives of at risk teens through awareness building and education, advocacy, and mentorship, coaching, and clinical & resource support.



The Vision of the Jonathan Foundation has expanded to include our focus on community education and community action and a growing focus on brain health to increase suicide awareness and prevention. The vision is to impact mental health and suicide awareness with a focus on brain health, education, and support for the next generation, informing healthcare, schools/churches, and first responders within our local communities and communities across the nation, and influencing policy at the state and national levels.

The Strategic Aims of the Jonathan Foundation center around three strategic themes: Achieving excellence in-

  • Awareness building and education
  • Advocacy
  • Support including mentorship, coaching, clinical navigation, and resource support


Our strategic achievements toward those aims include:

  • In collaboration with Pee Dee Department of Public Health and Pee Dee Mental Health, led the 1st Annual Brighter Days Conference May 2024 with >400 participants from the healthcare, counseling, education, church, and first responder segments of the community. 
  • In collaboration with Pee Dee Department of Public Health and Pee Dee Mental Health, launched the 1st Community Suicide Coalition December 2024 with >30 organizations represented.
  • Provided the 13th Annual Run for Brighter Days Awareness building event Sept 2024 with >200 participants.
  • Provided the 12th Annual Be That Friend Campaign in Florence, Marion counties and 40 communities across the nation.


  • Partnered locally with Pee Dee Mental Health, Department of Public Health, the Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion, the Nemec-Abbott Foundation, and other key community partners; and partnered nationally with the Amen Clinics, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in the pursuit of improving brain health, reducing the burden of mental illness on the patient, family, and community, and reducing suicide incidence.
  • Provided Advocacy letters in support for AFSP legislative initiatives.


  • Received grant to launch and provide the Brighter Futures Mentorship program in Spring 2025, in collaboration with Families Engagement, to provide mentorship for middle-schoolers in 6th-8th grades
  • Became an Affiliate of the Amen Clinics to launch and provide bridge services to Amen Solutions Spring 2025 including
  • Free and customized Brain Health Assessments
  • Brain Health Coaching through Amen certified Brain Health Coaches.
  • Brain Health Supplementation and Rx through BrainHealthMD
  • Brain Health training provided personally by Dr Amen through Amen University
  • Clinical care referral and navigation with the Amen Clinics
  • In collaboration with the Nemec-Abbott Foundation and the Change Your Brain Foundation, provide Medical Scholarship program in Florence School District I to fund SPECT assessment for students who need despite ability to pay.
  • Expanded Board roles and responsibilities and focus on adding key new membership.
  • Developed Strategy Map and Balanced Scorecard 2025 to manage strategic direction.
  • Implemented new project management solution, Basecamp. Added part-time Project Management Director to coordinate project flow.
  • Implemented new Giving platform, Bloomerang. Added part-time Development administrative staff to expand development efforts.
  • Formalized Friends4BrighterDays Giving Portfolio with giving levels for Grantors, Corporate Partners, Sponsors, and Donors.
  • Leadership completed Amen Brain Health certification.
