In February, we honored Black History Month as a Black-led nonprofit deeply rooted in community, and committed to advancing equity for San Francisco youth. The month also marked a significant milestone with the opening of 3900 Third Street, expanding access to safe, supportive housing for young people. From strengthening housing pathways to creating spaces for health, healing, and youth voice, our work remains grounded in equity, opportunity, and holistic care.

We were so honored to welcome Mayor Daniel Lurie to the opening of 3900 Third Street, the new home of our Just Home Project, a 19-unit transitional housing program designed to support young adults experiencing housing instability with safe housing, stability, and access to essential services. His presence underscored the City’s growing commitment to expanding housing opportunities and long-term support for young people in San Francisco.

The community opening brought together city leaders, housing partners, community members, staff, and supporters to mark this important milestone, including District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton, Public Defender Mano Raju, Sheriff Paul Miyamoto, Shireen McSpadden from the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), Rebecca Foster from the Housing Accelerator Fund, Allison Clark from the MacArthur Foundation, the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, and many community partners. The program featured remarks from civic leadership, and project partners, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and guided tours of the space — offering a first look at the supportive environment designed to help young people work toward stability, independence, and long-term wellbeing.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Lurie for joining us and for demonstrating strong support for youth housing solutions in San Francisco.

This milestone reflects years of collaboration, advocacy, and community dedication to expanding youth housing access. We are deeply grateful to the SF Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), Housing Accelerator Fund, Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, MacArthur Foundation, our vendor, Tracy from Marin Balloons, city leadership, community partners, and, most importantly, the young residents whose voices continue to shape this work.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this significant step forward for youth housing.

Last month, our 3rd Street Youth leadership team came together for a full-day retreat focused on reflection, alignment, and planning for the year ahead.

Hosted at the Valkyries Headquarters at Generation Thrive, the retreat gave our team space to step back from day-to-day work and reconnect around shared values, open communication, collaborative leadership, and authentic partnership.

Together, we reviewed program goals, identified clear paths for accountability, and engaged in honest, productive conversations grounded in our commitment to youth, families, and community. Along the way, there was plenty of laughter, including a fun activity connecting leadership styles to football positions, and a strong sense of collective purpose.

We’re grateful for the time, openness, and collaboration our staff brought to making this retreat both meaningful and energizing for the year ahead.

SHOUT Mixer

We kicked off the year creating space for youth voices to be heard. Our second SHOUT Mixer, and first of the year, brought young people ages 12–24 together at the Umoja Health Access Point (HAP) to connect, share their perspectives, and engage in conversations around health and wellness.

With music, food, interactive stations, and a youth-led discussion, the gathering centered community, expression, and open dialogue.

We’re looking forward to hosting additional listening sessions throughout the year and continuing to create spaces where young people feel heard, supported, and connected! Stay tuned for more information!

Our full-service primary health care clinic offers free youth physicals, referrals for specialists, STI treatment, rapid HIV testing/counseling, and pregnancy testing/counseling.
