A Note from our Executive Director
Dear Lori,
Today is my six-year anniversary at LEAP. Life and work move so fast and I often don’t take a beat to look back at how much we have accomplished and just how far we have come. So am taking this breath to reflect, even as I am poised to LEAP forward into my seventh year of service.
When I look back over the past six years, it’s easy to see LEAP’s quantitative accomplishments: hundreds of babies cared for, thousands of families supported. We can count our contribution to the world in numbers of diapers and pounds of food, in children ready to enter Kindergarten, and parents reaching their goals.
More importantly, I see how LEAP has responded thoughtfully, respectfully, and effectively to the changes and challenges we have faced since 2018. Collectively, we’ve weathered fires, floods, and a pandemic as well as a housing crisis, increasing hate incidents, and a decline in trust in institutions.
Yet, we’ve managed to build trust.
So much is changing, and LEAP continues to be an organization that our community trusts. It is that trust which allows us to do big things, like LEAP into Lompoc so that more children have access to high-quality early education, like organize town halls so that more people can communicate with their elected representatives, like provide educational scholarships for all our staff so that we build the early childhood workforce.
The community trusts us, and we deliver. We also trust you. We trust that you support our work and that you care for your community. Thank you for trusting us, and being trustworthy in return.
