Reflecting on the Year: Lessons Learned and Memories Made

As we approach the end of this year, I’ve been reflecting on the moments that defined it—moments that taught us resilience, brought us joy, and reminded us of just how far we’ve come. For my family, this year was transformative, and Logan’s journey is at the heart of it all. I’d love to share some of the incredible progress he’s made and the lessons that came with it.

Lessons Learned: Progress Takes Patience and Persistence

This year, Logan achieved something we once could only dream of: transitioning from being tube-fed to eating 100% by mouth. For a little boy who has been tube-fed since he was six months old, this is nothing short of a miracle.

Earlier this year, my husband, Logan and I, spent three months in Atlanta for an intensive feeding therapy program. The journey wasn’t easy—it involved countless hours of therapy, hard work, and a lot of emotions. But during those three months, something incredible happened. Logan found his rhythm, his confidence, and his appetite! Watching him learn to enjoy food and take control of his eating was the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had as a mom.

One of the biggest lessons we learned during this time was how much structure and consistency could help Logan thrive, not just in feeding therapy but across all areas of his life. This led us to embrace ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy in a way we hadn’t before. The strategies we learned in Atlanta have made such a difference—not just for Logan but for our entire family. It gave us tools to better communicate, support, and celebrate him.

Memories Made: The Moments That Matter

While the year wasn’t without its struggles (hello, insurance headaches and capacity fatigue), it’s the moments of joy that I keep close to my heart. Seeing Logan light up while running around and swimming at Aunt Johnna’s or watching him laugh in pure delight during his 80’s-themed 8th birthday party, are memories I’ll cherish forever.

And of course, this year’s Logan Strong Foundation’s Logan Cup was one for the books! With 170 golfers and a sold-out event, it was a reminder of just how much love and support this community has for families like ours. Connecting with so many parents and caregivers at the Special Needs Expo was another highlight—I love hearing your stories and finding ways to support one another.

Moving Forward: Lessons to Carry into the New Year

Logan’s journey this year has reminded me that progress is often slow and steady—but that doesn’t make it any less incredible. Each small step forward adds up to big victories, and patience truly pays off.

As we head into the new year, I encourage you to reflect on the wins, big or small, that your family has experienced. Celebrate them, hold them close, and remember that every challenge is an opportunity to grow.

Gratitude for This Community

To everyone who has supported us, cheered Logan on, or shared your own stories with me—thank you. This community continues to inspire and uplift me in ways I can’t fully put into words. Together, we’re proving that no challenge is insurmountable and that every child deserves a chance to thrive.

Here’s to another year of growth, progress, and connection. Wishing you and your family a season full of joy and hope.
