July 4th - Seriously, I’m mad as Hell and I do not want to take it anymore!
|
|
We continue to lose our Independence. Between the Supreme Court and the slim Republican majority in Congress, who act more like the basket of deplorables and who choose party over country. I’m asking all of you to answer this question -Are you living your best life and what are you doing to make things better?
Women, blacks, LGBTQ, indigenous people, Muslims, Jews, Asian Americans, student loan holders (the majority are women, and minorities) students, DACA, immigrants - we make up much more than half the population of this county yet on many levels we are not equal under the law.

Speaker's Perch, by Bradley Stevens
|
|
My first 4 years in DC were at George Washington University (1968-1972) where I spent as much time protesting the war in Vietnam, and how black people were treated in this county as I did my class work. To now see us go backwards, the court being against inclusion and diversity is devastating and to see so many so-called leaders against the rights we secured decades ago.
These decisions are a knife in the gut of most artists and all people of conscience. Art is about the truth.
The first thing that everyone should pledge is to VOTE. Get involved, a democracy involves being proactive and not leaving everything up to the would-be dictators. We must condemn all the lies, and lack of transparency in our local, and Federal Government. We elected a great and good man to the White House, but he cannot do it alone.
You have a choice about what TV you watch and if you are interested in the truth or lies. We must do our part to save our planet and stop killing each other, save our lands, water, and protect the species that were here a lot longer that we were. We must act like the grown-ups in the room and be good parents, citizens, friends, family, and community.
We are only as good as the sum of all of us. We all should ask ourselves, “are we living our best lives?”

Washington DC artist, JOAN KONKEL, says of her work, “I love working with the opposing forces of light, absorption versus reflection and refraction. Whereas metal reflects light, the mesh draws light into the piece where it bounces off every colored strand and surface. At times a bit of refracted magic takes place that gives the illusion that the piece is lit from behind the canvas.... " read more
