State Chamber Update
I am the father of three grown kids who are all in college this year (the very definition of bad family planning!). My middle child, Renee, is a sophomore at the University of Iowa and with the Iowa Caucuses only weeks away, our conversations turn to politics every now and again. The present day noise and almost endless bickering we hear out of Washington makes her quite uncomfortable. I nod in agreement, but advise her to “Google” 1968 to see what real trouble looks like.

As we reflect upon Dr. King, his life and messages, we look back at the progress we have made and the challenges that are ahead. Today, many State Chamber members are working steadfastly on being more inclusive because with greater inclusion comes diversity, stronger organizations and thoughtful decisions. For our part, we have a growing list of diverse member suppliers that can be found on our website. We hope you give these businesses your consideration.

“True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is a quiet week for economic data and reporting. On Wednesday, existing home sales data for December will be announced. Thursday will bring us leading economic indicator information for December.

When you donate to Goodwill, your unwanted items are sold in our retail stores and online. With the money raised from these sales, Goodwill can help people overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, through the Power of Work. You donate and shop, and Goodwill provides job training programs and employment placement services to people with disabilities, those who lack education or job experience, and others facing challenges to finding employment. Goodwill provides a hand up, not a hand out to thousands of local residents every year.
