December, 2018
Dear Friends,

I find that there is something truly special about the end of the year. While it is a busy time, it is also a time when one can pause for a moment and reflect. And when you take that time to look back, you realize exactly what we have accomplished together over the course of the year.

  • Together, we organized 59 educational sessions for nonprofit professionals totaling 111 hours with 770 attendees.
  • We watched 303 students complete our Youth in Philanthropy programs (16 in total) and begin the journey to become our future leaders and philanthropists.
  • We honored Pam Lesser and Bob Brack, 2 people whose contributions to the community and enduring willingness to help others are an inspiration to us all.
  • And thanks to friends like you, we were able to give out more than $1.5 million dollars in 2018 to nonprofits across the MetroWest Region.

Each year I am excited by the passion and commitment shown by the nonprofits serving our communities, and am always honored to award them their grants. We are continually astounded by the amount of need throughout our region, as well as by the opportunities we have to make a difference together. We are so encouraged by the work of the many organizations seeking to improve the quality of life for all residents; maintain and protect our natural resources and waterways; develop and showcase artistic talent; and preserve our region’s rich history.

As your community foundation, we continually strive to make the greatest impact possible here at home. But as you know, there is still work to be done. We were only able to fulfill 39% of requests this year. If you haven't already, I ask you to make a year-end gift to the Foundation for MetroWest before midnight, December 31.

In these last few days of 2018, I want to thank you for your kindness, your support, and your friendship.

With much gratitude,
P.S. Your year-end gift will allow us to continue to be a steadfast resource to our communities and help local nonprofits execute their missions. And, as you will read below, you can double your impact this December. We gratefully reflect upon the strength of our communities, while knowing there is much more we can do. And we can do it. Together.
We are just $10,000 away from our goal! Double your impact in MetroWest this year-end.
Thanks to a generous donor, every new or increased gift to the Foundation for MetroWest in the month of December will be MATCHED, up to $50,000, in surprise funding to local nonprofits providing emergency services to those in need. With one gift, you can double your impact this year end! We are just $10,000 away from meeting our goal! Will you be the one to get us to our goal? Make a Gift today
2018-19 MetroWest Women's Philanthropy Series

The first of our 4-part series was a great success, with panelists Loren Feingold, Caroline Murphy, and Kelly Nowlin speaking eloquently about prac tical ways to incorporate your child’s voice in your family’s philanthropy. One of the biggest takeaways from the conversation was there is no right time or right way to engage your kids in giving back.  Visit our website to learn more about the event and to find resources for your own family .

Join us for our next discussion, focusing on our local food systems and how the public and private sector are joining forces to fight hunger. Tuesday, January 8thRSVP today !
Congratulations to our 2018 Grantees!
On December 10, the Foundation for MetroWest awarded more than $325,000 to 37 non-profit organizations through the competitive grant program in the areas of Arts & Culture, Family Support, and Environment.

“This has been an exciting year. We were pleased to see a wide variety of organizations applying for our grants.” said Susan Kavoogian, Chair of the Distribution Committee. “Every year we see new ideas, new projects and programs presented to help strengthen our communities. We are honored to support a range of programs, from workforce development services to theatrical performances.”
