Kindness Matters

Psalm 90:14

Fill us at daybreak with your kindness…

In today’s psalm, the psalmist is asking God, “Fill us at daybreak with your kindness…” If at each daybreak we are filled with the kindness of God, our world might have a chance of achieving peace. Every act of kindness you show can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Living out kindness on a daily basis takes practice but leads to a lifestyle and mindset shift that implores us to meet the world, and each other, with greater empathy and justice.

When we intentionally go out into the world to make a difference, we become the good news for our siblings in Christ. Some of our acts of kindness will help one person or family--and others will create systemic change that will leave positive ripple effects throughout our neighborhood, community, and the world.

Try something new and follow your intuition on how you want to create positive

change in the world. Some kind suggestions are:

  • Write a thank you note to someone who has inspired you to make a positive difference
  • Find a Little Free Pantry or Free Fridge in your community and drop off some food. (Trinity has an outside pantry, FOCO Café has a Free Fridge)
  • Create care packages for your unhoused neighbors.
  • Read the news, find a story that breaks your heart, and make a small donation to a nonprofit responding to that issue
  • Donate your unused frequent flyer miles to an organization that helps reunite refugee families. (i.e. Miles4Migrants.)
  • Forgive someone.
  • Buy and display a Pride flag to show that you are an ally.
  • Offer to let your neighbor borrow your lawnmower or other yard tools.

I’m sure you are already thinking out of the box about how your kindness can change the world. As you discern your next kind action, let the words of others inspire and sustain you.

“It takes courage to be kind.” — Maya Angelou

“If we are asking for the world to be kind, we must first ask what are we doing to add more kindness to the world. If we are asking for the world to be more loving, we must first ask what are we doing to add more love to the world. We are the vessels for the things we seek.” — Joél Leon

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the

world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” — Margaret Mead

“I would rather make mistakes in kindness and compassion than work miracles in

unkindness and hardness.” ― Saint Teresa of Calcutta, A Gift for God: Prayers and Meditations

“My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.” ― Dalai Lama

“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” ― Mark

Twain

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” ― Ian MacLaren

Let’s start flexing our kindness muscles as we prepare for World Kindness Day on

November 13, 2024! And keep in mind that we are filled at daybreak with the kindness of God—each and every day—an endless supply!

In Christ’s peace and kindness,

Mother Rosean
