Transgender Day of Remembrance
Each year on November 20, the world recognizes Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) – a day that commemorates the transgender, non-
binary, and gender non-conforming persons who are killed or targeted with violence, discrimination, and abuse simply for living authentically. This day is an opportunity for collective mourning, connection, and healing—a moment to share stories, remember our loved ones, and celebrate the strength and resilience of the transgender community.
TDOR is also a bold call to action. Our current political climate has created
a dangerous environment for our trans and nonbinary community. Not only
are transgender rights being ruthlessly targeted, but the surge of anti-trans
sentiments and violence has compounded the marginalization of trans and
nonbinary people, exacerbating mental health struggles and deepening
feelings of isolation and fear. (The Center on Colfax, Denver, CO)
On November 12, 2025, heads of diverse religious traditions issued a
landmark statement proclaiming that transgender, intersex, and nonbinary
people are worthy of love, support, and protection. The statement, which is directed to the American public, political leaders, and moral teachers says "Our faiths, our theologies, and our practices of prophetic witness call on us to say with one voice to transgender people among us: ‘You are holy. You are sacred. We love you. We support you, and we will protect you.”
Now more than ever, creating spaces of safety and unity is essential to
uplift and protect our trans community, empowering every individual to live
authentically. TDOR is a vital opportunity to foster that support, honor
resilience, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting our trans community.
As we celebrate, mourn, and support our transgender siblings in Christ
today, let us remember the beginning of Mary of Magdala’s Mission
statement…
Mary of Magdala is an inclusive, independent catholic community, welcoming each and all as the Beloved of God.
If we do this: Love God and Love our neighbor, we have fulfilled the law.
In Christ’s Peace,
Mother Rosean
