Indigenous Peoples Day
Indigenous Peoples’ Day occurs on the second Monday in October in many parts of the United States. In 2025, it is observed on Monday, October 13. This day honors the histories, cultures, and perspectives of Indigenous peoples and their ancestors who lived on the land now known as North America. They existed in these areas for thousands of years before the first European explorers arrived. This day promotes awareness of Indigenous peoples’ struggles, resilience, and unique traditions, fostering understanding and unity among diverse cultures.
Indigenous Peoples Day has been recognized for decades in different forms and under a variety of names to celebrate Native Americans’ history and culture and to recognize the challenges they continue to face.
In 2021, President Biden issued the first-ever presidential proclamation of Indigenous Peoples Day. He said in a statement that the day is meant to “honor America’s first inhabitants and the Tribal Nations that continue to thrive today.”
This day is about reclaiming histories,” said Kyle Mays, an associate professor of American Indian Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. “It’s acknowledging the history of dispossession and violence against Indigenous people.”
While Columbus Day affirms the story of a nation created by Europeans for Europeans, Indigenous Peoples Day emphasizes Native histories and Native people.
For Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Colorado State University’s Native American Cultural Center is hosting a public celebration on the Lory Student Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13.
The event will include music, refreshments and tabling from the Native American Cultural Center, as well as other Cultural Resource Centers at CSU. The event is free and open to all.
I hope you can stop by and learn more about our indigenous brothers and sisters whose land we now inhabit.

Funkwerks Craft Brewery will be closing next month. Since we have never gathered there, we ought to give it a try!
Funkwerks is located at 1900 E Lincoln Ave., Unit B. As usual, we will meet the second Thursday, October 9, at 3:30 PM. No RSVP needed- just come and bring a friend!

Join us for our Synod Mass on Saturday October 11, 5:00 pm
There will not be a Mass on Sunday in the TLC Sanctuary
Whether you have been part of Synod during the day or not, all are invited to gather for our worship together. Our presiders will be Bishop Kae and Bishop Paul. This Mass will be a Hybrid offering in the sanctuary and online (YouTube, not Zoom.)
Our MoM musicians will be playing and singing at the Mass along with singers and musicians from other communities. It’s going to be great!

Helping Families in Need
Our next week to help families experiencing homelessness is the week of Oct. 19th, & is a great way to put our faith into loving action.
Our days to help are:
