Fall is Officially Here
We are celebrating the Season of Creation until October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. As world-wide we Christians celebrate this, our Jewish siblings celebrate Rosh Hasanah, the celebration of the Jewish New Year and the beginning of the Jewish high holy days. Let us celebrate all of it: the Season of Creation, the Fall Equinox, and Rosh Hasanah.
As refresher:
“The autumn equinox is now upon us! Today [Sept. 22, 2025] marks the moment that the sun crosses the celestial equator, ushering in the beginning of astronomical autumn in the northern hemisphere, which brings with it the inevitability of longer nights, perfect for stargazing. (Space.com)
In 2025, the autumn equinox will occur on Sept. 22 at 2:20 p.m. EDT (1820 GMT), when the sun moves southward across the celestial equator. The celestial equator is an imaginary projection of Earth's equator into space, forming a circle around the sky that divides the northern and southern celestial hemispheres. The sun's drop across the equator is due to a 23.5° tilt in Earth's rotational axis, which shifts our star's apparent path in the sky as our planet goes about its yearly orbit.” (Space.com)
During mealtime, let us pray with the heart of the planetary pilgrims we are:
Autumn Equinox Blessing
My heart is the home of a banquet,
and so I sing a song of thanks
for all he gifts, talents, blessings, and treasures
that fill my life to the fullest.
My life is a feast
that overflows with the delights of your presence.
In thanksgiving, I rejoice in that river of gifts
that flows from taste, smell, touch, and sight.
May my life be an endless song of gratitude.
May this, my life song, be a magnet
that draws me ever close to you, O Divine One,
who has whispered in the silent spaces of my heart
words that speak the gift of gifts:
“You are my beloved.” Amen.
May we feel the calmness of creation as she begins her own resting moments,
Pastor Jane
