đź’› Reflections on a Generous Heart đź’›

When her mother told her about the children of Hands of Love in Uganda, children just like her in age but living with vastly different opportunities, Bethany didn’t hesitate. She chose to send one child to summer camp—a gift that will create memories, joy, and a sense of belonging that many of our children have never known.

It wasn’t easy to save $75. It took time, discipline, and intentional choices. That’s what makes Bethany’s act so beautiful. She didn’t give because she had excess—she gave because she had compassion.

What makes a person generous? Is it something they are born with, or is it something they learn through life, faith, and love?

These are the questions that stirred in our hearts recently after a remarkable moment of kindness—one that didn’t come from an adult philanthropist, but from a 14-year-old girl named Bethany.

Bethany had saved up $75 over the years—birthday money, small prizes, and family "Olympic Games" winnings. She could have spent it on anything a teenager might enjoy: clothes, tech gadgets, outings. Instead, she asked her mom a simple but profound question:

"Where can I donate my money?"

Bethany has reminded us all that generosity isn’t about abundance—it’s about awareness. It’s about seeing someone else’s need and saying, "I can help." Generosity like hers may begin in a tender heart, but it is cultivated by faith, community, and love.

You’ve already answered the call to care for vulnerable children. But perhaps Bethany’s story inspires you, as it did us, to reflect again on what it means to live with open hands and open hearts.

Would you consider joining Bethany in sending another child to summer camp? With $75, you can create an unforgettable experience for a child—fun, friendship, safety, and the warmth of being seen and loved.

As we reflect on Bethany’s story, we are reminded of Jesus' words:

Acts 20:35 says:

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

And Proverbs 11:25 tells us:

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

From one generous heart to another, thank you for being part of this story. You are making a difference—and inspiring the next generation to do the same.
