CommUNITY Open Mic : Call for Submissions

Reflections through HeART - a CommUNITY Open Mic Event will delight Seattle audiences with South Asian artists presenting prose, poetry, comedy, music, performance art, improv, or other forms of artistic expression. With support from the City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund, Reflections Through HeART nurtures budding South Asian artists in Seattle by giving them a safe and supportive environment to create magic. The CommUNITY Open Mic is a platform for South Asian stories and perspectives, and an event that will entertain, enlighten and inspire audiences.

Tasveer Welcomes Senior Programmer from Tribeca!

Tasveer welcomes Lucy Mukerjee to the team as the Programming Director!

Lucy Jane Mukerjee is a queer British-Indian film curator and programming disruptor, working to elevate underestimated storytellers. Her area of expertise is at the intersection of activism and the arts, specifically where programming and inclusion meet.

Over her 20 year career, Lucy has produced and programmed films all over the world. Since 2018, she has been a Senior Programmer at the Tribeca Festival, where she has been responsible for selecting the festival’s US and International narrative and documentary feature films, as well as strategizing the organization’s LGBTQIA+ outreach. In 2022, she begins a new role as Programming Director of Tasveer, the largest film festival in the US dedicated to stories by and about the South Asian diaspora.

TSAFF 2022: Regular Deadline for Submissions is July 15

A reminder that the regular deadline for TSAFF submissions is this Friday! South Asian Filmmakers can submit their films to the 17th annual Tasveer South Asian Film Festival that will be held from November 3rd to 13th, 2022.

Tasveer presents: How to Embarrass Your Immigrant Parents

A stand up show and solo act in one, “How to Embarrass Your Immigrant Parents” is a biting and irreverent storytelling experience that explores a pertinent universal theme: wanting to understand your parents but struggling to see eye-to-eye. Throughout the course of an hour, Abby takes the viewer on an intimate, hilarious, soul-bearing journey about her struggles with mental health, fitting in, and finding common ground with the ones you love even after they’ve hurt you. Most importantly, it is a love letter to Abby’s Indian heritage and her wonderful parents, without whom none of this would be possible. No gimmicky Indian accents, guaranteed.

The show explores sensitive issues surrounding mental health, viewer discretion is advised.
