Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We have all grown up with various images and devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In our parish church, we have a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. So, let’s get to the “heart” of the matter: the unconditional love of Jesus.
Our journey of life and faith really is a journey to allow ourselves to experience the tender loving care of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. For some, it takes a lifetime of regret and running away before running into the merciful arms of the only one who loves us completely and unconditionally without prejudice.
We are challenged by this image of such a loving God, especially when we are embarrassed by our sinful choices or abandonment of life and faith. How could God possibly love me? Well, God does! Perhaps, you do not love yourself? And, there’s the problem.
Today remembers the loving heart of Jesus and tomorrow memorializes the Immaculate Heart of Mary. An example of two human hearts so intertwined in love and sacrifice that we adore them both. Our savior, Jesus, saving us and Mother Mary tenderly leading and pointing to her son. Picture that!
Pray to both loving hearts today that yours may become like theirs.
