We become accustomed to hearing in scripture about Jesus’ disciples and some women. When you sit down and really think about it, Jesus had women with him all the time. Today’s scriptures remind us of this fact when we hear “Accompanying Jesus were the Twelve and some women….and many others who provided for them out of their resources.” These women were partners with Jesus in his mission and provided for the furtherance of Jesus’ mission from their own resources. Mary Magdala was one such woman that we know very well.
The modern-day parishioner probably does not think too much about their weekly donation; however, in the same way, they are providing for the continuance of the presence of the mission of Christ in that locale.
While this pandemic has caused all of us, including the Church, to re-examine our priorities and what is truly important, we know that we continue the journey fulfilling the mission of Christ through the generous donations of those who accompany us along the way.
Today, may the Church be grateful to generous souls who accompany Christ in a modern-day way!
The journey continues.
