It has been said that our true home is with God. God is our beginning and our ending, and we are meant to be in communion with our God in the Trinity. Our journey takes us through much suffering and eventual death; however, death will not have the last word for God’s faithful people. We will be reborn into eternal life.
Today, we celebrate the memorial of Sts. John de Brebeuf and Isaac Jogues. They were priest companions and martyrs. Jesuit missionaries martyred in North America with their fellow missionaries. Out of love for Christ, these men would return to the Huron missions voluntarily, despite knowing the hardships and eventual martyrdom that awaited them there.
We may ask ourselves what hardships or “martyrdoms” are we willing to endure for the love of Christ?
The journey continues…
