In our faith journey across the ages we are given the Memorial of Pontian (Pope) and Hippolytus (Priest), martyrs. Today’s saints suffered in exile together. Once a Pope and a theologian, they had been exiled by the Roman Emperor Maximinus to Sardinia to work in the mines. There they would die.
Today, we are very much aware of the many peoples around the world that are exiled from their home or home country. Let our prayers rise for them, especially those separated from family and loved ones. And, in a way, we are exiled from our physical church during this pandemic.
Let us be understanding of these times and keep faith without judging one another or making it even more difficult for those who are already struggling.
God bless those who are longing for home.
