Reflections with Fr. Mark
Dear Parishioners,

Today, we celebrate the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows after celebrating the Holy Cross just yesterday.  We can imagine the great pain of a mother at the foot of the cross where she witnesses the horrible suffering and death of her child.  Like Mary, there are many mothers throughout the world who suffer in seeing their children die for unjust reasons or circumstances.

Just this past week, we have heard about the rescue of dozens of children taken from their mothers in human trafficking crimes here in the United States and the arrest of their perpetrators.  The United States is one of the most prolific countries in child exploitation, sexual and physical abuse and human trafficking.  It exists because we allow it.  These situations are abhorrent and rip at the heart of our social justice concerns here and abroad.  Think of the suffering of these mothers; and, their lost children.

Today, as we recall the sufferings of our heavenly mother, Mary.  May we pray for her intercession in all situations where life is threatened or denigrated in our society today, especially in the lives of the children whom we are called to care for.

The journey continues…

Blessings,

Fr. Mark
