Today, we celebrate a building: The Basilica of St. Mary Major or Santa Maria Maggiore. St. Mary Major is one of four major basilicas in Rome and was built to honor the Blessed Mother after 431 by Pope Sixtus III following the Council of Ephesus. This Council had defined Mary as the Mother of God incarnate, the God-bearer, Mother of the Word made flesh. Jesus defined as equally divine and human through the wisdom and humility of Mary’s, “YES.”
Each one of us, like her, are called to bring forth the life of Jesus in our journey as we consume the Word and ingest His flesh in the Eucharist. We are to become like Him. Be not afraid to say “yes” to the great mystery that God has entrusted to you to unfold and give birth too in your journey of life and faith.
May this time be your time to respond to His invitation to grow into something very beautiful.
