UPDATE and ACTION ITEM! Message from Eau Claire

Monday evening at 5:30 p.m., there will be a demonstration outside of the L.E. Phillips Library, 400 Eau Claire Street, Eau Claire. There is a mall outside the library which can be prominently viewed from the third floor of the library where the meeting will take place. There is a parking garage one block southeast of the library on Gibson Street.

Monday at 6:00 p.m. is the community information meeting. The meeting room in the library holds 200, and they will try to fill the room with supporters. I would recommend arriving at 5:00 p.m. if you want in the room, and I do not believe they will take questions or comments.

Here is the link for the meeting and registration:

Who Is My Neighbor - Community Gathering
You Are Invited to a Community Gathering Who Is My Neighbor? Exploring how you can welcome your refugee neighbors

TALKING POINTS

1. This is not about refugees. This about the law which was not followed.

The Director and the Federal agency administering subsection (b)(1) shall consult regularly (not less often than quarterly) with State and local governments and private nonprofit voluntary agencies concerning the sponsorship process and the intended distribution of refugees among the States and localities before their placement in those States and localities.

Notice the word "shall." It does not say "may." This process must be adhered to, and they did not.

  1. The citizens were never informed this was being planned, nor were they asked their opinion.
  2. Which local elected officials did they coordinate with? There is no record of this in the city council meeting minutes for the past year.
  3. The refugee resettlement office provides support for 90 days, then it is up to the local taxpayers to provide services. This is taxation without representation.
  4. This opening of a refugee resettlement office was conducted under the cover of darkness. What are they trying to hide? Are they afraid that the citizens would not approve?
  5. This country already has open borders and illegals are streaming in. Why are we doing this?
  6. There is already a housing shortage in this city. Bringing in more unhoused people does not help.
  7. There is a large homeless population in the city. What happens to them?

Rules for the demonstration

The goal of the demonstration is to encourage people to consider our point of view.

1. Our target audience is blue collar Democrats. We will not persuade progressives.

2. Be nice, be polite, be friendly.

3. No open carry weapons. If you carry, make sure it is 100 percent concealed and not sticking out of the bottom of a shirt or jacket.

4. No Trump gear.  We are trying to change minds, not trigger weak-minded people.

If these rules are too much to ask, please stay home.

Signs. Having some signs out there helps get the idea across.

Two possible signs

1. No taxation without representation.

2. Democracy dies in the darkness (This will drive progressives crazy, and this is what is on the front page of every Washington Post); however, it is applicable here. This entire effort was conducted under the cover of darkness.

TONIGHT!

Proposed Immigration Office Informational Meeting, October 19, 2023

1600 Star Avenue
Eau Claire, WI 54703 United States

7:00-9:00 p.m.

I have spoken to the local elected officials and no one seems to know where this is coming from. We believe this may have come from the Governor’s office. Once they open the office, they will resettle refugees up to 100 miles from Eau Claire, which is why you are getting this. On Thursday, 19 October at 7:00 pm we are holding an information meeting at the VFW Post 305, 1600 Star Ave in Eau Claire, WI. Ron Branstner who has been in this fight for over 20 years and Susan Tully of the Federation of American Immigration Reform will be speaking.

Several years ago, an initiative to resettle 150 Syrians was proposed, when the residents voiced their opposition, they decided not to settle them. The proposal calls for the resettlement of 75 refugees during 2024, but we do not know what that number looks like in the following years when they are up and fully operational. Then each refugee can bring in family members through the family reunification program otherwise known as chain migration.

Please get this out to your membership. I believe this is something all of us can agree on and unite around. if you plan on attending please send me an email bolstad1@yahoo.com
