REGAL WEEKLY

April 7 - April 11, 2025

Regina Community,

Academic excellence is a point of pride at Regina. Your children work hard during the school day and our teachers are committed to challenging them to reach high standards.

Next week we will conduct our annual state testing: ISASP. Students will be assessed in areas of reading, writing, math and some grades in science. ISASP is the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress, administered annually to students across the state. We are incredibly proud of how students perform. Regina consistently scores above other schools across the state and the diocese. We then use these assessments to help us track individual student growth and guide our work as a school.

Your role next week is simple but important: help your child get a good night’s sleep, eat a solid breakfast, and offer a few words of encouragement. That support makes a difference!

Please submit requests for the Regal Weekly HERE by Wednesday 3:00 p.m.

ISASP Testing Reminder

The week of April 7 is also when ISASP's will be administered to grades 7-11. Testing will be done at the start of each school day from 8:15-9:30 on Monday through Thursday. Students will have their normal classes that week, just for not as long. Only 8th and 10th graders take the Science exam (Thursday) so 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students do not need to be at school that day until 9:30. Students in those grades who can't arrive late will report to their testing room for a study hall. Please remind your students to get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast prior to testing. The results of these tests are used to help monitor student and school progress.

REGINA EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER

This Week at the ECC: Spotlight on the Lion Room

This week, the Lion Room is focusing on light and shadows. The children are exploring how shadows are formed, experimenting with flashlights and sunlight to observe different types of shadows. One activity involved students creating a shadow of their hand using white paint. They painted around their hand and noticed that when they moved their hand, a shadow was left behind. They learned that the sun shines on their hand but not on the area of paper that is covered by their hand, creating a shadow.

In religion, the children read the story of Abraham's visitors and learned about God's promise to Abraham. They are also preparing for kindergarten by reviewing classroom rules, expectations, and the importance of being a good friend to their classmates.

Upcoming Events:

  • April 4: Ms. Casey from ICPL will visit to read to classrooms.
  • April 9: Guest speaker Keith Kappeler will talk about farming and baby chicks.
  • April 11: Guest speaker Jane Wilch will discuss waste reduction and recycling.
  • April 16: Deacon Angel will lead a prayer service for Holy Week (parents are invited to join).
  • April 18: Early dismissal – ECC will close at 11:30 AM.
  • April 21: ECC will be closed for voluntary Parent-Teacher conferences.
