Weather Related School Closure or Delay
In cases of severe winter weather, please tune into the local television stations (Channel 2,7, and 9) and radio stations (KXIC AM 800 and KCJJ AM 1630). We will also be
using School Messenger to contact families regarding weather emergencies.

When we have a late start due to weather, buses will run on a parallel schedule, two hours
later, unless otherwise noted. Students can arrive to school beginning at 10:00, not before this time. Thank you for your cooperation on these days.

Elementary
Kindergarten Round-Up
If your child is five years old on or before September 15, 2021, you are invited to Regina's Kindergarten Round-Up. This year the event will be held virtually on Thursday, February 18th, 6:30 - 7:30 PM. Preregistration is required. A parent information folder, child's activity folder and a free gift will be sent to your family once you are registered. Cold Weather Clothing
A reminder as the weather is colder and snow is here - please send a coat, hat, mittens or gloves and snow boots with your child to wear for outside time. Throughout the day in the classrooms students need to be in Regina dress code. New uniform items can be purchased at Lands' End and also remember you can join the Regina Used Uniforms: Buy, Sell or Trade group on Facebook by clicking HERE. Families can post what they want to sell or what they are looking to buy. Reminder not to send clothing items or money to the office or to school with your students. Parents need to arrange a meet up outside of school.

Moms’ Prayer & Fellowship Group this Friday morning

No lunch service will be provided over these three days of testing. If a student is staying at school they will need to bring their own lunch.

All students are to be in their scheduled classes from 8:20-12:25 on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 8:20-11:00 on Friday. All students may be excused from their study hall.

Workplace Learning Connections
Workplace Learning Connections is now accepting Summer 2021 internship applications from current Sophomore and Juniors. The all parts of the application deadline is Friday, February 12th at 3PM (no late applications will be accepted). We encourage students to apply early and follow along on their dashboard. Interviews will be held late February. Apply at www.workplace-learning.org. Check with Mrs. Zoulek if you have any questions.

ZAPS
On Monday January 18th, Regina is planning to host an in-person ACT prep seminar presented by ZAPS/Doorway to College from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Students can register at https://www.doorwaytocollege.com/

An Opportunity for High School Juniors:
Hills Bank provides 20 - $1,000 grants to attend any accredited Iowa college, university, or community college.  Applicants apply during their junior year in high school and must attend at least nine hours of leadership training during their senior year in order to qualify for the award.  Information and applications for the Hill Bank Leadership Grants will be available on the Iowa 4-H Foundation webpage https://iowa4h.awardspring.com. Applications must be submitted online no later than 11:59 PM, March 1, 2021.

PSAT
The PSAT test for Sophomores and Juniors will be on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021. While highly encouraged, this test is completely voluntary and will be held during school hours, starting at 8:00 AM. The test allows students practice for future standardized tests, such as the SAT or ACT tests. For Juniors, this is the test that would also qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The cost of the test is $15.
To sign up: Bring payment (exact change or check preferred) to the high school office, sign up on the list and receive your PSAT prep guide. Limited seats are available. See Mrs. Zoulek for questions or to inquire about scholarship options for the exam

Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award
The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award is a $10,000 scholarship program for Iowa high school juniors. The program annually identifies and honors up to 15 Iowa high school juniors who propose and then accomplish a project of their own choosing and design. Grades, test scores, essays and financial need are not evaluated. Each of the 15 finalists will receive a $1,500 cash award at the completion of the program. Four of those could earn an additional $10,000 scholarship each, for a total of $11,500! Go to www.uncommonstudents.org for more information.

Next Kirkwood/U of I Courses start in January
Any Juniors or Seniors interested in taking online or in-person courses next semester through Kirkwood or the University of Iowa, please set an appointment to meet with Mrs. Zoulek. The final deadline to sign up for the University of Iowa is November 10th. The final deadline for Kirkwood is December 4th. but the priority deadline for Kirkwood is November 20th. Course catalogs are open for both institutions now.
