MESSAGE FROM

HEAD OF SCHOOL,

JOY M. KELLY, Ed.S.

The air is becoming a bit more crisp and the leaves are slowly starting to change color. October has arrived bringing about nature walks, pumpkin patches and apple orchards. This is a beautiful time of year and though the leaves will slowly turn color and eventually fall to the ground, this is a season of patience and promise. May we slow down a bit to enjoy the beauty that God has created and the promises of His blessings.

God of Seed and Harvest

We bless you,

God of Seed and Harvest

And we bless each other

That the beauty of this world

And the love that created it

Might be expressed though our lives

And be a blessing to others

Now and always

October also brings the Feast of Holy Guardian Angels (October 2) and Our Lady of the Rosary (Oct 7). The guardian angel prayer below is a great way to start or end a day. Families can also conisder the Rosary together as a family.

Guardian angel, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side to light, to guard, to rule, to guide.

At next Friday's football game against West Branch, Regina Catholic Education Center will honor the retirees from 2020 and 2021. SUNDAY GOSPEL AT A GLANCE

Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (Mark 10: 2-16)

For the past three Sundays, the Gospel according to Mark reports conversations between Jesus and his disciples and the private moments Jesus used to teach his disciples about the Kingdom of God. In Sunday's Gospel, Jesus says, "Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." This is a pretty direct message and we are challenged to build God's Kingdom with the heart, spirit and faith of children. Joining the students at weekly Mass or visiting classrooms during morning prayer are joyful occasions to witness the faith of children and our privilege and responsibility each of us has to help all children grow in a deeper relationship with God. These past two Sundays, Jesus reminded the Disciples of the value and importance of these “little ones” in the Kingdom of God. In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus again points to children as the example of complete trust and faith in God. Is that the attitude of all believers? Regina is an educational faith community dedicated to receiving all of God's children entrusted to our care in order to help them recognize and cherish their personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. How can we continue to build God's Kingdom by imitating the examples set by children?

Regina Jr/Sr High School Character Strong

Next week in our social and emotional learning time, a variety of topics will be explored using the Character Strong tool. Starting this week and next, students will be introduced to a "Character Dare" or a "To Be List." These are challenges to extend their learning outside the session. These challenges are invitations, not demands. The power is in the conversation.

  • 7th grade: Thinking about and identifying values we personally feel are important can help us make good decisions and can guide our actions in positive directions
  • 8th grade: After envisioning our hopes for our futures we will harness the wisdom of these imagined positive future selves to think about healthy ways to live our lives today.
  • 9th grade: This is the 1st of 2 sessions that brings student voices forward with the goal of helping students understand that it is common to have worries at the beginning of high school and that most students find that things work out better than feared.
  • 10th grade: An important message of these sessions is that good mental health is more than the absence of mental illness. Well-being is possible even when struggling with mental health challenges. Working to boost our own and others' well-being improves our lives even in the midst of mental health struggles and makes us less likely to suffer mental illness in the future.
  • 11th grade: We will explore where our values come from through reflecting on motivations. Our "To Be List" is a way to put our values into action.
  • 12th grade: This session is designed to set the stage for the theme of this year: "Leadership." In this session we begin to explore how we can all be positive leaders through influencing others.

Parent Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for helping my children learn and grow each day. Please guide them to remain faithful to Gospel values in their daily lives. May Your guidance, teachings and wisdom shine through in all that they say and do. Amen.
