Dear Madison West scholars and families,
We hope this message finds you filled with excitement and anticipation for another academic year at Madison West! As we gather our thoughts, we cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride and enthusiasm for the Madison West community.
First and foremost, we are thrilled to announce that our school building has undergone an extensive renovation during the summer break. This exciting transformation has resulted in numerous additional classrooms, conference rooms, offices, and athletic spaces. These enhancements aim to provide an even better learning environment for our students, allowing for increased collaboration, engagement, and overall student success.
In the spirit of new beginnings, we are also pleased to inform you that fall sports are currently underway. We want to emphasize that the safety and enjoyment of our scholars and participants/spectators are paramount to us. We are fully committed to ensuring that every game is conducted in a manner that promotes fair play, sportsmanship, and respect for all involved. Therefore, we kindly remind all students that they are expected to adhere to the MMSD and Madison West student expectations during athletic events.
Football Games & how to show up
We want scholars to pay particular attention to how they show up at football games. Football is fun and exciting for all participants. As Regent scholars, we show up to cheer and root for our student athletes, we’re not there to tear others down. As an inclusive school, we take immense pride in our diversity and unwavering commitment to being anti-racist, anti-homophobic, and simply anti-hate! We firmly believe that every individual within our community deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, including the fans and opponents across the field, pitch or court. Yes, this includes Middleton. As such, carefully note that bigoted language and poor behavior have no place at Madison West, West events, and West football games.
Also, our West team expects that our scholars attend games full of cheer and school spirit, not other intoxicants and hate.
So…
- Arriving at games under the influence, consuming/sharing drugs, vape pens, cigarettes or any mode-altering stuff is a no-no.
Scholars who do will be asked to leave (we might have to call your parents to come get you). So, think clearly, carefully and consider your safety and that of others.
We encourage you to refrain from being added to the Restricted Regent list. Making poor choices will land you there. For those that don’t know, the Restricted Regent list means scholars may face consequences. For example, Homecoming is an amazing tradition and experience at West. I would hate for any scholar to miss out on activities and the Homecoming Dance. So, again make good choices.
If you see fellow scholars slipping up, correct them or report them. We kindly request that each and every one of you remain mindful of your behavior both in and out of school. Your actions reflect not only upon yourself but upon our entire Madison West community. Let’s strive to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel safe, valued, and supported. Together, we can build a community that celebrates our differences and promotes a positive learning environment for everyone.
Once again, Welcome Back to Madison West Scholars! We look forward to an incredible academic year filled with growth, achievement, and memorable experiences. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Go Regents!
Sincerely,
Dan Kigeya
