Regent Reporter - March 25th, 2022

We’re sending this out early due to Spring Break, Monday, March 28th through Friday, April 1st. Be mindful that as the country opens up, we expose ourselves to different COVID risks. Please use the screener for your children before you return them to MMSD schools on Monday, April 4th.

As the days grow longer, the students and staff grow more excited by the day as we slowly transition from seeing our COVID mitigation strategies evolve from a pandemic mindset to an endemic mindset -- April 15th is the day the district intends to explore a move to “masks optional” and a less restrictive approach large group meetings. This means our end of the year celebrations -- National Honors Society Induction (5/23), Prom (5/14), Senior Honors Convocation (5/26), and Graduation (6/11) -- are all in person.

It’s been a long time coming. We are very, very ready for the new normal.

NHS Update

We would like to notify you that NHS invitation letters have not yet been sent out as we have had an administrative delay, but students should expect them in the days ahead, with all new deadlines. We are especially happy to announce that we'll be having an in-person Ceremony of Induction to celebrate the effort and achievements of students!

MSCR Driver's Ed Scholarships

The application for the MSCR Driver’s Ed scholarships are now open to those who qualify! Please read the attached Driver Education Information document and complete the online application (links below) by April 22nd to be considered for the class. It is not first come first serve. Any application received by the deadline will be considered, however there is a selection process due to limited spots in the class. For further questions, please reach out to West’s MSCR coordinator, Mo Porter at maporter@madison.k12.wi.us.

Audition for Fine Arts Week - Theater One Acts

Auditions for One Acts for Fine Arts Week will be online this year. Monday, April 11th will have limited in person auditions after school. You can find flyers with information throughout the school, on the theater website, and/or contact Ms. Walker. No experience necessary, just be yourself and have fun.

Come to Souper Bowl XXVI!

Join us THIS Saturday, March 26th to celebrate the return of a much loved West High event, the Habitat for Humanity Souper Bowl! Enjoy a great meal, local entertainment, handmade bowls, and raffle drawings as we raise funds to build affordable housing in Dane County.

As a special treat, several West students and teachers will be doing live throwing demonstrations on the potter's wheel!

Where: West High Cafenasium

When: 12 PM- 6 PM

Cost: $15 for a ceramic bowl (meal includes soup, salad, and bread)

or $35 for a family meal (includes two ceramic bowls and four meals)

The West HS club mountain biking team was State Champion again in 2021! Congratulations!

Congratulations to Alexa Harris!

Senior Alexa Harris placed on the podium four times at the WIAA State meet! She placed third in the All-Around with a 37.483, making her the third best High School Gymnast for D1 in the State of Wisconsin! She also took 2nd on Balance Beam and placed 5th on Bars and Floor! She exemplified sportsmanship, kindness, and hard work. We are proud of her extraordinary representation of Madison West High School and MMSD, as one of only three athletes that competed from our district at the State level this season.
