Fine Arts Week

The Visual Arts Department is excited to share our schedule for Fine Arts Week 2024, May 17-23!

The Fine Arts Week Gallery Show-  Fri. May 17th - Thur. May 23rd

  • This show includes student work from all of the art classes at West, and will be the first show in our new gallery space, located on the first floor in the new hallway that runs along the courtyard (previously ACCESS testing room).
  • Work will also be displayed in the Ash Entrance.
  • Due to the smaller size of our gallery space, we request that you sign up HERE if you’d like to bring your class to the gallery during Fine Arts Week. There is a tab on the bottom of the spreadsheets for each day.  Please, no backpacks, food, or drinks in the gallery to protect the artwork.
  • The art department will create a small gallery scavenger hunt that classes may participate in.  The scavenger hunt will be sent to the teachers who sign up to bring their classes, and copies can be printed at your discretion.

Gallery Reception- Wed. May 22nd 6:00pm-7:30pm

  • Staff, students, and families are invited to join us for an evening reception to view the artwork in the Fine Arts Week Gallery.  Light refreshments will be provided.
  • Stop into the gallery on your way to the choir concert that evening!

The Third Annual Mini Gallery- Fri. May17th - Thur. May 23rd

  • Located in the display case at the Ash Entrance, this miniature gallery is filled with the tiny creations of our talented Ceramics 3 and Painting & Printmaking students!

The Pottery Olympics- Tues. May 21st, 4th hour and lunch

  • The Pottery Olympics will be held outside on the corner of first floor Ash and Van Hise! (door #10)
  • Students will compete in the Tallest Cylinder Challenge and the Partner Throwing Challenge (students pair up and use one hand each to throw on the wheel).  Bring your 4th hour class or come out at lunch and cheer for your favorite potters!

The Pottery Sale, Auction, and Art Sale-  Thur. May 23rd in the courtyard, hours 3-7

  • There will be current student pottery for sale, as well as pots from previous students and teachers.
  • We can accept cash, check, and Venmo for pottery purchases.
  • Student vendors will also be selling a variety of other art goods, jewelry, and crafts.
  • The Pottery Auction will be held 6th hour. The auction, which we haven’t done since before covid, closes out the pottery sale!  We put 5 pieces at a time on a podium and then begin live bidding.  The highest bidder gets to choose their favorite of the 5 to take home.  Why the auction?  It offers you the opportunity to buy something you’ve been eyeing all day at a competitive price.  Bring your classes to join the fun!

Live Painting Demonstrations- Thursday May 23rd in the courtyard, hours 3-7

  • Painting & Printmaking students will showcase their skills.

The Performing Arts Department is thrilled to announce our line-up for Fine Arts Week 2024, May 17-23. This 52-year tradition is one of the things that makes West unique. These plays, recitals, and concerts represent the culmination of a year - sometimes several years! - of work for our students.
