From Principal Kigeya

Dear Madison West Scholars and Parent(s)/Guardians,

As we progress through the school year, I want to express how incredibly proud we are of all our scholars. Your hard work and dedication to meeting our expectations have not gone unnoticed, and we are thrilled with the progress you are making. 2,300 scholars focused on teaching and learning in a safe and efficient manner is a tall order, yet all of you have made this happen each and every day. Congrats! Let's keep it up.

This past month and into the middle of October, West has been and continues to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Our scholars from Familia Latina have displayed beautiful artifacts and clothing that uplift and celebrate Hispanic/Latino/a culture. It has been a wonderful opportunity for our West community to learn and appreciate the rich heritage and contributions of Hispanic/Latino/a Americans.

Looking ahead, our newly formed Student Leadership team is actively planning observances and activities for several important events in October. These include National Bullying Prevention Month, Custodian Appreciation Day, National Coming Out Day, and Indigenous Peoples Day. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all our scholars and staff.

Also, this week is Homecoming Week, and we have an exciting lineup of events planned. The annual West Parade and Aud will take place on Wednesday, October 2nd. The Homecoming Football game is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th, at 1:00 PM, followed by the Homecoming Dance from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM. Please remember that tickets are $10 through Wednesday and will increase to $15 on Thursday and Friday. Scholars can purchase tickets for both the game and the dance on GoFan. See your SLC office with questions or concerns.

Additionally, we have some fantastic performances coming up in October. The Choir Concert is on October 9th, the Band Concert on the 23rd, and the Orchestra Concert on the 24th. All concerts will begin at 7 PM, and we look forward to seeing everyone there to support our talented scholars.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to making West High School a place of excellence and inclusivity. Let’s continue to work together to ensure the success and well-being of all our scholars.

Warm regards,

Dan Kigeya

**Friends of West**

Over the past four years, our West community has weathered some significant challenges—navigating the pandemic and an extensive construction project that created difficulties in being together. We’ve missed the vibrant connections that make our community special: the smiles of parents, the laughter of siblings (our future Regents!), the energy of volunteers, and the passion of changemakers.

Now that our construction is complete, we’re thrilled to invite all families and the broader community back to West! We’re launching Friends of West, an initiative dedicated to supporting our students, staff, and everything that makes West, West.

Let’s create new traditions, rekindle the old, and build incredible opportunities for our students together!

We need your unique voices and talents to help make West an even stronger, more dynamic community. This is your chance to be part of an exciting journey as we redefine what it means to be connected at West.

We want to hear from you! Please fill out this form, and stay tuned for our first meetup. Together, let’s embark on this inspiring adventure!

Spain Travel Opportunity

Dear families,

I’m taking students to Spain in Spring 2026, and wanted to personally invite you!

I'm excited to tell you more about the trip being planned with EF Tours, my educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://rsvp.eftours.com/pjvt66n

When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.

In this info session, we’ll talk about:

  • How this opportunity will benefit your student
  • What we’ll see and do on our trip
  • how your child can earn college credit
  • Everything that’s included in this experience
  • How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
  • How to enroll on this trip during EF’s risk-free enrollment period

There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!

Thanks,

Cara Rea-Garcia

Please note: this is a non-school sponsored trip.
