Homecoming week is in full swing and we are looking forward to our Parade, Rally, Football Game, and Dance to be held this Friday and Saturday. Here is all the important information you need to know as we move through Homecoming week 2022!

Spirit Week: October 3 - October 7. We encourage all students and staff to dress up each day during Spirit Week while still adhering to the school dress code. We will also be decorating parts of the school in our school colors Blue & Maize to show our Regent Pride!

Monday: Pajama day

Tuesday: Decades day

Freshmen = 70s; Sophomores = 80s; Juniors = 90s; Seniors =

2000s; Staff = Alma mater

Wednesday: Class colors

Freshmen = white; Sophomores = green; Juniors = black; Seniors = blue; Staff = red

Thursday: Western wear

Friday: Regent Pride (blue and maize)

Homecoming Court: Regent Royalty will be announced at the football game Friday night.

Parade and Rally: Friday, October 7. After lunch, students and staff will line the streets around West High School and cheer as sports teams and clubs parade down Chadbourne Ave, turning on Ash, Van Hise, and Highland. A celebration rally will be held in the Stevens Gym immediately following the Parade. Here is the bell schedule for Friday, as we’ll have shortened classes to make time for the parade and rally. Students: Your advisor or coach should have already filled out the parade registration form to ensure your club/sport a spot in the parade. If they have not, please check in with Katie Medema.

Football Game: Friday, October 7. West will play Middleton High at Mansfield Stadium. Come out and show your support for your West High Regents! Homecoming Court members will be announced and Regent Royalty will be crowned at the game. Bag check will be occurring and to make the process easier, students should refrain from bringing large bags/purses to the game.

Homecoming Dance: Saturday, October 8. West will be hosting a ‘Starry Night’ Dance from 7-10pm. Students will enter through the Ash Street Welcome Center Entrance and checkin in the Cafeteria. Students are not allowed to bring guests from outside schools. Tickets are currently available for purchase in SLC offices during lunch for $10. Please note: Students should refrain from bringing large bags (bookbags, purses) as well as large coats to the dance. We will be offering a ‘coat check’. However, this process is time consuming and will take time away from dancing!

As part of our ongoing efforts to support students in being in class on time, we are continuing with our Start On Time policy.  We recognize that full and partial day absences impact student learning and we want every student to maximize their learning time.  

Start On Time is designed to support students in getting to class on time and being ready to learn when the bell rings.  When the bell rings, staff will close their classroom doors and begin instruction.  Any students who are not in class at that time will obtain a tardy pass at one of nine locations within our building.  Once students obtain their tardy pass, they walk to their classroom and knock twice on their classroom door.  Students then show their tardy pass to their teacher and enter class.  

Students who obtain 4 tardies or more during a week will be assigned a lunch detention to be served the following week.  Students can serve their detentions during lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Lunch detentions last for 30 minutes and students must be in the lunch detention room by 12:15 in order to serve their detention that day.

If students do not serve their lunch detention in the week it is assigned, they will be placed on the Restricted Regent list.  Students who are on the Restricted Regents list will be unable to attend any home athletic event or dance until they have served their lunch detention.

Last year, we began an ambitious project to scan all West yearbooks and archive them digitally on the web. We are happy to share that we have most of the yearbooks scanned, but are in need of copies of the early years at West from 1930 - 1970. If you have a yearbook from one of these years that you can lend to us, we’ll get it digitalized so it can be enjoyed by all. We are specifically looking for yearbooks for the following years: 

1932, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1953, 1954, 1955,1956, 1957, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970

We also welcome any other texts, literary magazines, newspapers, etc. In order to pay for the digitalization services, we also welcome monetary donations.
