Madison West Rocket Club
Congratulations to the Madison West Rocket Club for taking 1st and 2nd place at the 2021 Rockets for Schools Competition!
Despite the challenges of a virtual school year, team members were able to utilize online meetings for the planning, research and development of their projects, apply individualized and compartmentalized construction methods resulting in successful vehicle integration and finish, and access socially distanced launch opportunities thanks to the support of all the families willing to provide personal transportation. Overcoming every obstacle and limitation, both teams achieved successful flights of their high powered vehicles with scientific payloads.

The Rockets for Schools competition compiles a cumulative score for each team based on the results of their team written test, vehicle inspection, mission patch, project presentation and poster display. Congratulations to Team MAC and Team TIAR for earning 1st and 2nd place.

MSCR Summer Clubs
MSCR will have several clubs this summer open to all MMSD high school students. Here are a few. Registration is required.
National Honor Society
Congratulations to this year's inductees to National Honor Society! We're so happy to have you, as well as proud of your endurance and commitment to our common values of scholarship, character, leadership and service. Students who are considering applying next year as Juniors should keep
dedicating to volunteer service hours, as we'll likely be back to 60 hours for next year.

Welcome to West High's chapter of NHS!

West Blood Drive
West will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday June 15th at Midvale Community Lutheran Church. Donation appointments are available from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Students, families, and staff are all welcome to donate! Summer is a challenging time to collect enough blood donations to meet the needs of patients. A diverse blood supply is important--a patient is more likely to find a compatible blood match from a donor of the same race or a similar ethnic group.

Donors must be at least 16 years old (16-year-olds require parental consent) and must meet height/weight requirements. Eligible donors with types 0+, 0-, B-, or A- blood are encouraged to consider making a power red donation (additional requirements apply). In most cases, there is no deferral after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination.

To schedule an appointment, visit https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=Westhighschool or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

All donors will receive a $5 amazon.com gift card via email.

Please email Ms. Frisch at kafrisch@madison.k12.wi.us with any questions or if you need help signing up.
Taiko Drumming is back!
Any Middle School or High School students interested in learning/practicing the Okinawan Eisa Style of Taiko Drumming, we will hold practices over the summer. We will meet in the tent on the grounds of the Bayview apartments. We will meet on Fridays from 9am - 11am beginning on June 25 and ending on Aug 13th. There is no cost and no experience is necessary. Questions? Please email Heidi Hastings at hhastings75@gmail.com

Our Taiko Drumming Club has traveled to Washington DC for 15 years in a row, to perform in the National Cherry Blossom Festival - see a video of that here. We are in a parade that is on TV, and we perform in two other festival related events. We hope to return in April 2022!
