SKILLS USA

Region 10 Students Shine in Bangor!

Region 10 students recently participated in the annual SkillsUSA competition, joining peers from across the state to put their career and technical skills to the test in a series of hands-on, high-energy challenges. From problem-solving under pressure to showcasing industry-specific talents, it was an exciting and inspiring day for all involved!

Students from multiple Region 10 programs proudly represented their fields, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and dedication throughout the event. It was a great opportunity for students to step outside the classroom and connect with the broader world of technical education.

A special shout-out to our Creative Digital Media students, who brought home a silver medal—a proud moment for their team and the entire school!

We’re so proud of all our students who stepped up to compete, learn, and grow through this incredible experience. We can’t wait to see what they do next!

RULEBOOK JEOPARDY

What do you get when you combine creativity, college-level media skills, and the student handbook? Rulebook Jeopardy—a brand new game show video produced by two of our third-year Creative Digital Media students!

These talented seniors have completed six college courses and are now putting their skills to the test by producing a half-hour trivia-style showdown where contestants will compete to see who knows the student handbook best. Categories will include fun (and important!) topics like Parking Protocols, Code of Conduct, and Dress Code Do's & Don'ts.

They’re currently casting contestants from around the school—so if you think you know the rules, now’s your time to shine! The game show will be filmed and shared school-wide, offering both laughs and learning as students test their knowledge in a fast-paced format.

STITCHING TOGETHER SKILLS

C.N.A & E.M.T. Learn Suturing Techniques from U.S. Army Reps

Students in Region 10’s EMT and CNA programs recently had the unique opportunity to learn a critical medical skill—suturing—during a special hands-on workshop led by representatives from the U.S. Army.

The Army medical team visited Region 10 to share their expertise and provide students with real-world insight into wound care and suturing techniques. Using practice kits and guided instruction, students learned how to properly clean, prep, and close wounds—a skill that’s essential in both emergency medical and clinical settings.

The experience gave students a deeper appreciation for the precision and focus required in medical fields, while also opening their eyes to career paths in military medicine and service-based healthcare.

“This was such a valuable experience for our students,” said C.N.A Instructor Joann McMahon, “Learning from professionals in the field, especially from the U.S. Army, brought a new level of engagement and realism to our classroom.”

Region 10 is proud to provide opportunities that bridge classroom instruction with practical, career-aligned training. Events like this suturing workshop are just one way we’re preparing students for high-skill, high-demand futures in healthcare and beyond.

ENRICHING OUR COMMUNITY

Media Students work with Elmhurst Inc.

View last year's production created by first year film student, Aden Andrews

The 1st-year film students in Region 10’s Creative Digital Media program are teaming up once again with Elmhurst Inc. to produce a brand-new exercise video for adults in their Community Supports Program. This program provides adults with intellectual disabilities or autism a stimulating environment to achieve personal goals and explore community involvement throughout the Mid-Coast area.

Last year marked Elmhurst’s first year launching a health and wellness initiative, and our students joined in by co-creating an exercise video to support their efforts. With a playful nod to their pilot status, the group dubbed themselves “the Guinea Pigs,” and the collaboration became When Guinea Pigs Fly Productions.

This year’s video is now in production, led by first-year film students Indigo Norcott and Josh Whitney, who are bringing energy and creativity to the project once again.

And the collaboration doesn’t stop there! Region 10’s Graphic Design students jumped in to create commemorative swag for the Elmhurst team, including a custom t-shirt, tumbler, and hat—all featuring the official When Guinea Pigs Fly Productions logo. It’s a small gesture with a big heart, and it reflects the pride and joy both programs feel in creating something meaningful together.

You can view last year’s video above. For an experimental joint venture, it took off—and we can't wait to see where this year’s production lands!

JOBS FOR MAINE GRADUATES

On Friday, May 2nd, a group of Region 10 Juniors and Seniors from the CNA program will travel to Central Maine Community College (CMCC) to participate in the JMG Maine Career Exploration Event.

During the event, students will engage in professional development workshops, enjoy a guided tour of the CMCC campus, connect with peers from across the state, and be honored for completing the Maine Career Exploration Badge—a notable accomplishment recognizing their preparation for future success.
