As I sit here and write this newsletter, we are getting pounded with snow here in central Michigan. It is that time of year when students (and sometimes teachers) are checking the newsfeeds for school closings. Our region goes from Michigan to Maine, down to West Virginia, and the states in between so I am sure many of you are dealing with similar winter weather. If you have to shovel, don’t forget to lift with your legs!
It was great to see so many of you at CareerTech VISION! I always enjoy getting a chance to see the smiling faces of co-workers in this great field for career and tech (CTE) from across Region I. If you were able to attend the conference in Phoenix, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. The Region I Policy Committee met prior to the conference to carry out Region I business. I want to thank all of the Policy Committee members for making the time to attend the meeting and contribute to our work.
The Policy Committee is continuing to advance our Strategic Plan. One of the goals under the Professional & Leadership Development focus areas is to increase engagement in the Region I Conference. The conference planning committee has been meeting monthly since August to make sure we have a great conference. We have been working closely with members from New York and UFT.
The leadership conference for Region I will have an excellent keynote speaker, great breakout sessions, an amazing awards banquet, area tours and opportunities to work together on best practices with practitioners from throughout the region. Although many excellent proposals for breakout sessions have already been submitted, the deadline for session proposals has been extended to Jan. 31 in order to accommodate a few more slots. We have some amazing work happening in Region I. I encourage you to submit a proposal so you can share with your colleagues.
As a reminder, the conference will be held in New York City,
May 1-3. Information about the call for proposal submission, registration and the hotel can be found at Region I Conference webpage.
Below are a few more reminders and notices for you to consider.
