Dear Region II ACTE Members, |
A vivid memory from my childhood is using paper plates, yarn, cotton balls, crayons and glue to create the face of a lion and a lamb during elementary school. This was part of a lesson about seasons and weather, with the teacher reciting the idiom March blows in like a lion and out like a lamb. While writing this, I asked my kids if they had ever heard the phrase and my son C.J. remembered a Big Nate comic strip that explained the meaning. This is the final newsletter I will write as the Region II Vice President. As I reflect on the last three years, I chuckle considering that my Vice Presidency blew in like a lion, with the Covid-19 pandemic disrupting education in my first year. Seemingly, my term is ending like a lamb, with a decrease in mask mandates, conferences in person, and school resuming a sense of normalcy. I’ve met many ACTE members from our region, developed new friendships, and learned much about myself and our organization along the way.
Many have expressed concern about learning loss during the pandemic and long-term impacts on children. Like many of you, I experienced the joys (sarcasm) of teaching remotely while my three sons learned virtually in the same space. I’m convinced the kids will be okay and here’s why: Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. Take a look at the graphic released under a Creative Commons Attribution license by the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching. You’ll notice create is the most complex cognitive process, sitting at the top of the hierarchy. Successfully working in each category of Bloom’s Taxonomy requires achievement of the prior skills or abilities. Think back over the last few years and ask yourself: When have I designed, developed, or investigated something in order to produce new or original work? We all have, because we’ve had to. I’ve seen it in your lesson plans and projects. You’ve shared these creations with others. We’ve become a profession of creators and I see it through my kids every day, as they, too, have become creators. Thank you for adapting to the demands of a disrupted education system. Because of you and your flexibility, I’m convinced, the kids will be fine.
In this newsletter, I’ll share more information that might be helpful to many of our members. As I prepare to pass the baton to our incoming Vice President, I want to thank you for the kindness, patience, grace and support I have felt throughout our region. I am proud of our accomplishments over the past three years in spite of the challenges we faced and am honored to have served in this capacity.

Sincerely,
Chaney Mosley, PhD
ACTE Region II Vice President

You will also learn about free tools and resources, created by the Center for Global Education and the Association for Career and Technical Education.
