Update

Greetings from the VP,

It is hard to believe the summer is coming to an end and many of us will be welcoming students back to our schools or campuses in the coming weeks. I hope each of you escaped from your normal routine this summer and had some fun, or just got some rest. Early in the summer, it was great seeing many of you at the ACTE Region III Conference in Des Moines, Iowa. Our Iowa colleagues were outstanding hosts and provided a great networking and professional learning opportunity for our members. If you haven’t attended an ACTE Region conference, I encourage you to make it a priority to include it in your professional development in the coming year. Personally, I have attended five Region III conferences and each has expanded my professional network, exposed me to current work practices through industry tours, and taught me best practices from schools across the states in our region.

Another highlight of my summer was attending the ACTE Board of Directors meeting in July as your new Region III Vice President. I am grateful for the support of the members who elected me to serve on the national board, and I will work hard to represent the members of Region III. At the board meeting, it was great to hear that ACTE is adding a new division, Work Based Learning, to the organization! This new division will provide an opportunity for members to connect with others who are passionate about providing high-quality work-based learning opportunities for our students. In other exciting news, one of our own, Scott Stone, was installed as the 2022–23 ACTE President. Scott is an agriculture education teacher in Centralia, Missouri, and I am confident he will continue to do a great job leading our organization. It is also worth noting that while in Alexandria, Virginia, my wife and I were able to spend part of the Fourth of July at Mount Vernon, the plantation home of our first U.S. President, George Washington. It was great running into him while exploring this historic estate. Two Presidents in one week. Not a bad adventure!

Have a great start of the new school year, and I look forward to seeing all of you in Las Vegas, Nevada, for ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2022. Don’t miss out on the advanced discount!
