Hello, Region V Members!

Nevada ACTE successfully hosted an outstanding ACTE Region V Conference from April 30 to May 3. The event was filled with engaging keynote speakers, dynamic breakout sessions, insightful industry and school tours, lively social events, a memorable awards banquet, dedicated exhibitors and sponsors, and an impressive student capstone showcase. We are already looking ahead with excitement to next year’s conference in Salt Lake City, Utah!

Region V Awards

During the ACTE Region V Conference, we held the ACTE Region V Excellence Awards hosted by Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada and their culinary arts students and instructors. It was a great venue to recognize 64 nominees and present eight award winners. The award winners who will be representing ACTE Region V at ACTE's CareerTech VISION Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in December are:

 

Administrator of the Year: Tina Gudvangen, Arizona

Counseling and Career Guidance Professional Award:  Jonathan Burke, Colorado

Lifetime Achievement Award: Curt Bertelsen, Arizona

New Teacher of the Year: Leah Ferguson, Oregon

Post-Secondary Professional of the Year:  Tyson Sorensen, Utah

Teacher Educator: Xue Xing, Nevada

Teacher of the Year: Matthew Waynee, California

Carl Perkins Community Service Award: Nikki Melius, South Dakota

Region V Hall of Fame

ACTE Region V also has its newest inductee into the ACTE Region V Hall of Fame. Becky Cox from Utah was inducted into the Hall of Fame during the Region V Conference. Becky has been a dedicated ACTE member since 1991, serving as the ACTE President (201819) and Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Division vice president (200710). Her impact within Region V includes serving on the nominations committee, nominations chair, and resolutions committee. Her leadership in their division and state, including roles as executive director and president, has strengthened CTE programming and advocacy efforts nationwide.

Leadership Opportunities

Are you interested in getting more involved with Region V? Looking to develop your leadership skills and deepen your understanding of Region V? Explore the opportunities below and consider applying to serve!


  • Awards Committee: We are seeking members from Arizona, Wyoming, and Colorado to serve on the Awards Committee. Individuals from other states are also welcome to participate. The term begins July 1.

  • Region V Legislative Committee Chair: We are looking for a member who has previously served (currently or in the past) on the Legislative Committee and is interested in leading it. This is a three-year term beginning July 1.

  • National ACTE Bylaws Committee: We are seeking a member to fill a vacant term on this national committee. The current term ends June 30, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment for future terms.

  • Policy Committee Members: We are looking for two members to serve three-year terms on the Policy Committee from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028. Applications are due June. Members from Alaska, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Washington are not eligible for these positions.

  • Region V Committee Members: We are always seeking members for the Awards, Legislative and Resolutions, and Marketing/Membership/New Ideas Committees. Participating in a Region V Committee is a great place to start your ACTE leadership pathway.

Region V Vice President-Elect

Region V is also seeking an experienced member to serve as Region V vice president-elect and subsequently a three-year term as vice president. This term runs from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029. To apply for this position, please submit your application through the ACTE website portal.

ACTE Region V Fellows Program


ACTE Region V is pleased to announce the continuation of an opportunity to participate in a Region V Fellowship Program to promote the image of CTE, and to provide an understanding of policies related to Career and Technical education in Region V. Region V will select a maximum of 2 fellows for the next two years. Each fellow will receive a stipend of $1,500 for each year of the 2-year period. This stipend is to help offset some of the expenses of being a fellow. The Fellowship Program is a two-year commitment from July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2027.

Spotlight exceptional Business-Education Partnerships and Champions of CTE by June 30. Your nomination could honor the innovators driving workforce education forward!

National Leadership Development Opportunity


The ACTE National Leadership Fellowship Program is designed to empower CTE professionals by enhancing their leadership skills, offering hands-on experience in policymaking and supporting their professional growth. The 2026 cohort will run January–December 2026, with fellows receiving a $1,500 stipend, along with complimentary registration for ACTE’s CareerTech VISION and National Policy Seminar. Applications are open May 1Sept. 15

Student Scholarship Opportunity!



Encourage students and adult learners, ages 18–35, to apply for Horatio Alger Association Career and Technical Education Scholarships, offering several CTE-specific scholarships for students planning to enroll in CTE programs at public institution. The application is open now through June 15.
